Who really picks our candidates?

Note to mods. This is not about primaries or conspiracy theories, but based on actual personal experience.

On June 30th, 2007 NALEO, had a national conference at Disney, in Orlando. They had seperate Republican and Democratic presidential forums.

I along with 2 other people had Green Room Invitations to the event. The only people back there were the candidates, a few staffers, and security. Nobody else. No Press, nobody. We got to spend the entire day just talking and bullshitting with the candidates. It was a great experience. Most candidates showed up with one or two staffers. John Edwards (Whom I supported at the time) showed up with his legendary 2 busload entourage.

If there's ever a guy you want to go out drinking with, it's Joe Biden. Best bullshit artist I've ever met in my life. and I mean that as a compliment.

But, after spending most of the day talking with all the candidates, Barack Obama breezed into the room. It's hard to describe, but he sucked the air out of the room. I'm standing there with 3 senior Senators, a congressman, and 2 governors, and they are all deferring to this guy. I remarked to Elizabeth Kucinich, who I was standing next to, "It appears that the anointed one has arrived". She replied, "It sure does look like that".

Remember. This was before the first caucus or primary in 2008.

Who picked Obama?

Maybe it goes back further than that. In 2004, I came up 1 vote short of being a delegate to the DNC Convention. Even though I was the 9th District candidate for Congress, another guy hired a bus and shipped people in. Oh well,.

But, a good friend of mine, a very wealthy activist in Florida, who was a delegate, told me about a convention party. Most paties have cash bars, and dinners used as fundraisers for individual campaigns. They went to one, in a three story restaurant, free food, open bar, for a Illinois State Senator named Barack Obama, who nobody had ever heard of before.

Just relating facts, as I know them.

The arrogance just oozed from him. And everyone else just defered to him.

and I'm sure I wasn't the only one. Turned out I was right, but even sooner than I'd expected.

It does appear you cannot buy the WH...you can steal it, but not outright buy it. Now Congress, you can buy off entire sections.
