I checked DU's Alexa data. Interesting. Why so many folks from India here?

http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/democraticunderground.com

A greater percent of site visits from India than from Canada, Australia or the UK.

I find that very curious!

Country % of visits rank in country
US 76.4% 2,857
India 3.0% 49,576
Canada 2.5 15,147
United Kingdom 1.9% 29,000
Australia 1.7% 15,861

One or two a month from India.

If the Alexa data reflected bot crawls, we'd show them too. Same with the other possibilities above.

I have a few ideas about who those folks are.

I would assume so, and given how quickly DU changes and the number of different pages/links on DU with all the different threads, permalinks, etc I would imagine it gets a hell of a lot of hits from bots. I wouldn't be surprised that many bots originate in India.

I admin a very small business website and at minimum 10% of our hits are from bots, probably more. And I only update the pages once a week or so, there are only 6 pages on the site. I am not an expert on any of this - have just learned by doing, but that's my guess.

Anyone who actually knows about this stuff, please correct me if I'm wrong.

I've seen the hot houses with my own eyes.

They are given marching orders of the day; there are accounts left open for that purpose, and they spread the message for that day.

The "tell" is usually old accounts (kept around for credibility purposes) that are mostly inactive after campaign season (post just enough to keep from getting deactivated) and then come on hard and fast (often 24 hr/day posting) during the season.

Every sophisticated campaign does this.

But I am very aware of a certain Democrat leader who uses the "concern troll" message to make a certain curly headed Jewish man appear to be unelectable.

Trump is uses this method to great effect on Facebook.

Romney was a master of it during the Republican primaries.

Forgive me for not having the link. It should be readily available, regarding the story today that the vast majority of Trump's FB likes come from "Like Mills" in India, Malaysia, and the Far East.

IOW, the majority of Trump's online support does not come from actual U.S. voters.

So suddenly this story pops up.

Alexa is bullshit if you only read the numbers. It is only raw data, and much more information needs to be gleaned before any conclusion can be reached. In this case...who cares? Is anyone spouting DU in the news and polls?

Does it mean 76% of Americans visit DU? I doubt it.
OR-- 76.4% of American visitors is 2,857 but 3% of Indian visitors is 49,576..?

Can somebody smarter than I please explain?

I don't get quantum physics.

the percentage is the percentage of DU visitors... so 76.4% of DU visitors are American. The 2,857 "rank in country" means this is the 2,857th most popular internet website in America
