Confederate flag supporters, opponents clash at 'Secessionist Rally' (SC)

... Dozens of people were waving the Rebel flags as a part of the 'Sovereignty Day Rally. The event was organized by the South Carolina Secessionist Party as a way to recognize the anniversary of the states secession from the Union in December of 1860.
Several people who took part in the rally expressed their lingering outrage with the legislatures decision to remove the Confederate battle flag from State House grounds. That happened back in July in response to the killing of nine people at the Emanuel AME Church in Charleston ...
The rally however did draw several other people to the State House grounds who were against the partys message.
"It's like I said woeful obtuseness, said Thomas Washington of Columbia, they know what the 'heritage' really is. They {the Confederate states} were fighting to keep their ability to maintain slavery. That's part of the story" ...
