I'll post the link when I get to it. But this is my home town.
I'm currently involved in a very humorous/serious debate with old Cocoa Beach friends about the sudden influx of FREE STUFF washing ashore. Seriously...everything from gallon jugs of cooking oil, to Lysol spray, to cases of cat food, to sun screen, to...anything. You name it. It was a massive container ship heading to sea which tipped an lost several containers.
Many locals are saying 'don't touch it! It's contaminated!' Despite the fact that much of the stuff is washing ashore in original packaging. You know, the stuff you'd buy at the Dollar Store.
BUT...and this is a big but...One container was supposedly carrying a shitload of batteries. Acid. Nasty stuff. Now dead fish are also washing ashore with the free consumer goods. The state is claiming red tide for the fish kills.
It is fascinating. I'm sorry I don't have a link, but if you're reading this you have the skills to do a ten-second Google search using terms like Cocoa Beach, Port Canaveral, Container Ships, Fish Kills. Go for it. It's pretty amazing stuff.
