When the wet dream of "pro-lifers" comes to pass...

Especially notice the last paragraph in this post.

Half A Million Kids Survived Romania's 'Slaughterhouses Of Souls.' Will They Ever Heal?

BUCHAREST, Romania — Daniel Rucareanu remembers clearly when his best friend at the orphanage, Florin, slapped him.

The night supervisor in the boys’ communist Romanian orphanage caught the fifth graders fighting in their dorm room. As punishment he ordered them to hit each other. Daniel was first. He hesitated and, in the end, barely touched Florin. But Florin didn’t hold back when it was his turn.

“My best friend hit me with so much hate that I got scared,” Rucareanu recalled.

The supervisors cultivated violence to humiliate and control the children, he said. The older kids hit the smaller ones. The educators beat everybody. The staff preferred to hit them in the face and head.

The beatings left psychological scars. Even now, it’s sometimes hard for Rucareanu to look people in the eye.

“We were wiped out as human beings — silenced, humiliated,” he explained. “Our personalities were dissolved.”

“Those places were the slaughterhouses of souls,” he added. “How did all those people heal?”

(snip)

From 1967 to 1971, Romania’s population increased by more than 6 percent.

Ceausescu ordered that women should be subject to regular gynecological exams at work to detect pregnancy before a possible abortion.

Starting in 1985, Ceausescu ordered that women should be subject to regular gynecological exams at work to detect pregnancy before a possible abortion, according to a 1990 Helsinki Watch report titled “Romania’s Orphans: a Legacy of Repression.”

the millions of unwanted kids who would need rearing until they reach age 18. Maybe they've got a for-profit orphanage business in mind . . . it wouldn't surprise me. In truth, I think pro-life politicians would hate to see abortion laws repealed. They'd have nothing to run on.

Enforcing a total ban on abortions would require a huge, intrusive government with unprecedented authority to interfere in the most private aspects of citizen's lives.

Not to mention the fact that anyone with money could easily visit a nearby country and get a safe abortion with no knowledge of the government. So yes, Vinca, it would result in millions of unwanted children becoming wards of the government.

It is just another punishment opportunity. If the child dies or is injured because the parent can't or won't take care of them, tops parent in Jail, where they can work as a slave for a for-profit prison industry. If the child survives, either the military or more prison for them.

It's all "Gawds punishment for their sin"

4. in 1966 he feared a population decline and had a new vision: he wanted 30 million Romanians

and built the second-largest building in the world to rule an anticipated 100 million

Mexico and China insisted on natalist policies, as did many African and Asian countries--once the population doubled (and everything was dammed and soaked in pesticides) then the long humiliation of the forever-united nation-state will be over and they'll catch up with Europe by, oh, 1962, tops

it's the failure of this vision, in Egypt and Turkey, in Syria and Venezuela, that's given us the cartels, surging population, fundies running Washington, leveled forests, 9-11, IS, and global warming and its denialism--it just goes on and on

6. I wish that they'd allowed more adoption of Romanian orphans

I understand why they stopped adopting Romanian orphans outside of Romania, because of rampant human trafficking. But we could have save so many more of these kids.
