"No I'm not, I hate everyone equally."
How many times have you heard this?
Which also makes them liars.

(58,785 posts)One psychologist said strong bigots are typically biased against so many groups (basically, all "outliers" that he called them "equal opportunity bigots." If a person is bigoted against Jews or white women, Tibetan shopkeepers and Hispanic American nurses should expect hostility too. Bigots who hate black conservatives are sure to have a major hair about white liberals too.
We all know conservative bigots who are genuinely good and even admirable people toward those like them in their own communities. It's their hostility toward and rejection of all those who are not among their "own" that makes them potentially such troublemakers and so dangerous. Unfortunately, no matter what part of the world they come from and which religion or racial group they belong to, there are always at least 7 billion others who spark the worst aspects of their character by their very existence.

(58,785 posts)and so on around the planet. The human race is hard wired by genetics to the same personality types, which are born into every society around the planet in roughly similar proportions. Then environment kicks in. Some societies quash the bigoted tendencies of the social conservative character more than others, and some encourage them more -- like the right wing has been doing in the U.S. for the past 40 years and more.
IMO, right-wing mass-manipulators have worked hard to make conservatives of all types (including traditional and economic conservatives) the worst versions of their political selves that they can -- all for the purpose of dividing and conquering the electorate.

(37,748 posts)It also seems that far too many believe the accurate application of the label of racist or sexist is much more injurious than being a racist or a sexist.
"I am what I am, but never call me on it, else I will be offended and alert."

(58,785 posts)that's a real victory for decency. It shows they know society considers their behavior wrong and shameful, even if their nature won't let them understand why or let go of it.
BTW, strong racists tend to be dreadfully and tragically sincere in their beliefs. Various mental devices cause them to forget most good information about people they're biased against and retain and inflate negative information. Thus, they tend to KNOW the objects of their bigotry fully deserve their bad opinion. What they don't understand is why others don't admit what must be completely obvious to anyone who will look.
