Why not have experts "shrinks" teach the public how to spot an abuser, how to spot a potential killer?
We don't have enough money to publicly produce this information nationally? Is that the excuse? We have plenty of money for corporate tax breaks and off shore hiding of income....where are the values of this "great country" what a laugh "great country"
Anybody got ideas on why the public is not educated on recognizing these problem people so one can avoid the sickness and killing of body and spirit that shows it evil ugly head constantly in this nation?
I expect there won't be any responses. We as citizens are too damn complacent or self-centered to give a damn.

(36,063 posts)actually say there isn't a way to do it.
What emerges when you ask a profession to do something that it isn't trained to do is a lot of mistakes.
In this case the mistakes are false positive identifications that a person is a threat to property, others, or self.
If it stopped at just the freedom to buy a gun there wouldn't be much of a foul.
But the process of requiring psychologists to make low accuracy predictions would also serve as evidence that "authorities", aka the folks who run our lives, think mentally ill people are the problem. That would add a huge push to institutionalize stigma which is to say prejudice and discrimination against the mentally ill. That stigma already runs pretty high and is a major source of both unemployment among persons diagnosed mentally ill, and avoidance of treatment by persons with mental disorders for fear of the discrimination and prejudice that will be mounted against them and their intimate relations.

The answer is in what I just typed, not necessarily just what I typed either. Lots more to it but those few would go a long ways towards a just world that we all can share and be happy in.
Share is the magic word in all this

are smaller than they were two or three decades ago.
The homicide rate is about 4.7 per 100,000.
Why attack a "nation" for the actions of a few?
The non-homicide rate appears to be 99,995.3.
Isn't that 99.995% pure?
You want us to be able to "recognize" "problem people". So we can do what? Imprison people BEFORE they commit a crime? Or force some kind of "treatment" on people BEFORE they commit a crime?
I don't think I am brave enough for that sort of new world.

(36,470 posts)which is why do we have so many (mostly) men who resort to violence? If we had an economy that worked for everyone & not just the few, that would help, a lot. Then if we could redefine western masculinity, that would take care of most of the rest.
