I fucking hope you're happy, Trump.

You should be so proud of yourself. Hope no one gets killed because of you, asshole.

Before Trump's appearance in the nearly 52-minute video, the al Qaeda-linked Islamic extremist cleric Anwar al-Awlaki, who was killed in a 2011 U.S. drone strike, lectures to the camera: "Muslims of the West, take heed and learn from the lessons of history. There are ominous clouds gathering in your horizon. Yesterday, America was a land of slavery, segregation, lynching and Ku Klux Klan. And tomorrow, it will be a land of religious discrimination and concentration camps."

Trump then appears in a clip from a stump speech, saying, "Donald J. Trump is calling for a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States until our country's representatives can figure out what the [censored] is going on." The crowd enthusiastically cheers Trump's words.

Al-Awlaki again appears, lecturing viewers that "the West will eventually turn against its Muslim citizens." He goes on to say that American Muslims have two choices: "You either leave or you fight." Al-Awlaki extols Nidal Hasan, the U.S. Army psychiatrist who killed 13 people at Fort Hood in 2009.

measuring a potential leader's ability to navigate diplomatically and successfully in a turbulent world. Running off at the mouth to inspire the least knowledgable and most intolerant among us is not the mark of a leader.

Also, to have a potential leader openly declare that he would ignore the Constitution, and have people support that is quite disappointing. And this is coming from me, someone who definitely isn't fond of any organized religion. I do at least have a sense enough to try respect people's faith.

This has nothing to do with free speech. I'm absolutely for free speech, and don't mind hateful rhetoric, but that doesn't shield him from my opinion of his views and words.

It cuts both ways.

Laws addressing defamation and hate speech that curtail some freedom of speech exist for a good reason - when speech hurts others.

"They must consider that great responsibility follows inseparably from great power. " Voltaire

Free speech is a great and powerful thing. With it should come some responsibility.

I'm certainly against hate speech when it gets someone killed.

I strongly suspect some innocent Americans will die at the hands of terrorists inspired to act in retaliation of Trump's words. Sad but probably close to as likely as Hillary's concern that Trump words would be used in a recruiting video for terrorists.

Sat Jan 2, 2016, 08:39 PM
Jan 2016

The obvious distinction lies with someone irrationally reacting to my words with violence against someone....and me inciting someone into an act of violence. The former is the complete and total responsibility of the irrational murdering killer, the latter is the responsibility if the incitor.

Goading doesn't justify irrational unacceptable behavior.

18. It takes two to fight
Sat Jan 2, 2016, 09:49 PM
Jan 2016

If the US overthrow a few of their leaders over decades and screw with their lives or drone some of their family members and then an asshole like Trump says stuff like he did, it's not just Trump's words they're irrationally reacting to. Trump reminds them of other injustices or the fight the Muslims have with US foreign policy.

You can take a nice dog, tie him up and abuse him. Eventually, he'll turn mean and bite back.

If we look at the Protestants vs Catholics in Ireland, both sides could debate which injustice started the fight. By the time I plugged into it, it had been going on so long, nobody would pin it down with certainty or the other side would have a different take on it. The conflict in the middle east doesn't seem much different to me.

If one doesn't want terrorist problems, smart behavior is to not to provoke them like Trump did. Like the tied up mean dog, they can bite back.

America's speech rights.

We limit them for defamation. We limit them for hate speech.

I don't think "drawing and publishing cartoons of child molesting Mohammed" does a lot of good for this world - particularly when it can result in a bunch of American dead innocent women and children.
