The tax currently is imposed on tampons, sanitary napkins and other feminine hygiene products in most states and many countries around the world. But on Tuesday, California assemblywomen Cristina Garcia and Ling Ling Chan argued that their newly introduced measure could close the wage gap separating women from men.
Women have no choice but to buy these products, said Garcia, who serves as vice chair of the California Legislative Womens Caucus. You cant just ignore your period, its not like you can just ignore the constant flow.
The bill would cost the state about $20 million in tax revenue, The Sacramento Bee reported. If it passes, tampons and sanitary napkins would be added to a list of health products already exempt in the Golden State, including walkers, medical identification tags and Viagra.
