The goals of the Bundys and the Koch brothers coincide it's all about acquiring public lands and exploiting them.

Good article that stops just short of accusing the Kochs and the LDS of funding and helping coordinate the actions of white terrorists.

(55,894 posts)I have been wondering if this movement has some sort of shadowy funding and instigators.
Yeah, the idiots doing the actual squatting might not fully realize what tools they are and even think they are acting as free agents.
But it isn't a wild conspiracy to wonder if some in the power structure are actively seeding this and encouraging it.

(6,539 posts)This has been going on since the 70s. They're just tying to steal from the American people like usual. Beware of Congress, they could give the whole country to the Kochs.

snip
The Sagebrush Rebellion was a movement during the 1970s and 1980s that sought major changes to federal land control, use and disposal policy in the American West where, in 13 western states, federal land holdings include between 20% and 85% of a state's area.[1][2] Notably, supporters of this movement wanted more state and local control over these lands, if not outright transfer of them to state and local authorities and/or privatization. As much of the land in question is sagebrush steppe, supporters adopted the name Sagebrush Rebellion. The sentiment survives into the 21st century with pressure from some individual citizens, politicians, and organized groups especially with respect to livestock grazing, mineral extraction, and other economic development policy for these lands.

(34,661 posts)Mormon Church with the Republican Party help in trying to shape the final Legislation. Largest Cattle Ranchers in Utah and Nevada are operations run by the Non Profit Entity of the Mormon Church and they also are the largest Ranchers in Florida. Interesting few people know the real truth about how the Mormon Church and there influence in GOP policies and how it affects our Nation.

I remember history stories about how whites used to buy up land here in MN which led to the tribe moving to holding land in the name of a member instead of individual ownership.

(7,919 posts)as if they are some kind of naturally occurring outcome of western expansion culture and history. This obscures their dependence on cheap access to Federal lands and the benefits of environmental management. It also ignores the 40 years of Koch family funding for the Sagebrush revolt and other similar on-going attacks on federal authority. The MSM along with the FBI and the IRS seem remarkably blind to the same history and the ensuing grooming and cultivation of militant resistance to Federal authority.
It defies logic that there is no coordination nor culpability on the part of the Kochs with the events in Oregon today and throughout the West over the last decade. The Koch organization does much more than supply funding. While I cannot personally cite Koch activities with regard to the Bundy brigade supportive statements by conservative republican legislators from the region were made by known Koch affiliated republicans at a point when doubts were rising about public support for the occupation. There has been a pattern of Ammon's group and several similar sets of armed "patriots" arriving in small towns and engineering political confrontation about local issues in ways that have nothing to do with the communities where they take place, giving the appearance of a wide spread armed rebellion where none really exists, just as they did in Burns, Oregon.

Which will succeed as nothing will happen to these clowns.
Heck, they won't even have to pay to repair or clean the buildings they are currently residing in, assuming that they ever vacate them.

(7,919 posts)If these "gun guys"can get away with "defending their property", as they now call it, the same will be repeated in other similar locations. Since none of the group are Oregonian one wonders how they can make a claim to the land at all? But let's not question the loons too closely, they might get spooked and shoot back.
The issues of gun regulation seem obvious but this is also a ploy to gather the gun cultists around an Alamo. If and when they are arrested, leave, are run off, or god help us all shot, the Patriot gangsters will assemble on the spot as they have done in Waco and elsewhere and raise their flags and long guns to start the next phase of the holy ammunition wars.
The Bundy brigade actually have more in common with ISIS than the jokes about it give them credit for. ISIS was formed and financed by the Qatar and Saudi governments to interfere with Assad's plan to allow a gas pipeline to be built from Iran to Turkey to feed Europe. The Saudis and Qatar want to build their own pipeline for that purpose from Qatar.
The Sagebrush crowd have no idea they are being used to disable federal control of mining, oil and gas development on public lands to the benefit of the Kochs and other industrial players. They've been carefully fed the ideas they espouse over the last 40-odd years. They do seem to imagine some kind of sacred endless open range for their cattle, hunting, and who knows what else. They have no apparent understanding of either history or law and frequently cite apocryphal texts on both to support their views and validate their actions.
