http://miami.curbed.com/archives/2016/01/11/east-sister-rock-marathon-island.phpEast Sister Rock Island has been on and off the market since 2011, when it was originally listed for $12 million. The 1.37-acre island with over 5,000 square feet of living area returned to the market in mid-December for $8.5 million, according to Zillow, marking a 29-percent reduction in price.
The four-bedroom, three-bathroom home is sustained by wind and solar energy, sits on a coral reef, and has a veranda stretching nearly 3,000 square feet. You can arrive by boat or chopper (there's a helipad in the back). Vacationing here is also an option, with the island running for $1,000 per night most of the year.

Now if I can only win the lottery tonight.

OP
$8.5M seems low. You can find homes for a lot more in CA. I guess it's the inconvenience

(7,107 posts)5. If you did win the lottery, an island would be a good place to retreat to.
Away from all the people calling to ask for money.

Bad investment in that situation.

I'm thinking more of buying Downton Abbey with my Powerball winnings.

(89,252 posts)15. i think it's things like this which end up losing money for some lottery winners
And business investments based on some sleazy types who take advantage of them and convince them they will make a lot more.
