Hello DUers,
Belgian state broadcasting channel Radio1 has launched an appeal to ESA. They would like ESA to change their upcoming Mars probe's to name to "Ziggy Stardust" in honor of Bowie.
There is a petition in support of this unifying freedom-loving idea which desperately needs DU love in the form of a signature and further spreading if possible:
https://secure.avaaz.org/en/petition/European_Space_Agency_Rename_the_Exomars_shuttle_to_Ziggy_Stardust/
click and spread for dear life. Can love go viral?
yours sincerely

on edit: The Appointment (De Afspraak), a mainstream news show, had a segment illustrating the presence of Sanders in the race, his viability and electability. I've said it before, Belgium is waking up.

(5,379 posts)As in,
voted n°2 in StuBru's Bowie top 69.
I know, it's only Belgium, in the heart of the EU and host of Brussels.

(5,379 posts)Did you know there exist memories/melodies of you(r screenname)?
As Carl Sagan pointed out in Cosmos:
All higher elements than He are created by fusion inside stars. We are all literally composed of star dust. So did Bowie die? Dunno
Stardust
(3,894 posts)My screen name was the result of a confluence of inspiration from Hoagy Carmicheal, Carl Sagan and, of course, David Bowie.
BelgianMadCow
(5,379 posts)That, or the stars are aligned. I saw Hoagy's version. Song numbered in the top from the fifties to the end of the sixties. What died then?
Stardust
(3,894 posts)Willie Nelson did a beautiful version of it, too.

BelgianMadCow
(5,379 posts)but I happen to agree
It would seem that Bowie meant for Space Oddity to be a reflection on human loneliness. Appropriate for these overly individualistic times.

(2,805 posts)I've gotten so resentful and harsh as I haven't been feeling all that well and not thinking entirely linearly.
I'm going to judge others more mildly is my new goal. It just sounds kind and something we should all strive to do despite the political climate.
Thank you for the insight.

(5,379 posts)I always try to keep in mind that others, whatever their opinion, are probably trying to do what they (perhaps mistakenly) think is best for their children.
People aren't inherently bad or good. Our behaviour depends on the context, as has been shown in primates. Given that as humans we shape our own context to a large degree, we can change the contect and thus our behaviour.
I'm really, really happy to have inspired you a little bit. Thanks for the feedback, it makes me feel alive.

(5,379 posts)I hope so.
Given that I made it an all-nighter, there will forcibly be some peace, yet my son is sick so not quite.
Have a great day, whenever it starts

(21,849 posts)It must be up only a few minutes. Our dear mad Belgian jumped on this petition right away. Or did he create it? Hmmm
Anyway I'm glad to contribute.

BelgianMadCow
(5,379 posts)my user name has nothing to do with being mad (anymore), and the mad cow refer to mad cow disease which spread in Belgium as did dioxine in chickens.
Has been solved though, and our beer, chocolate and french fries or Stromae are second to none. Come visit some day, you're welcome. Don't believe what your tv told you about us, recently. Don't believe TV, period

but I'm glad he has a mom that defines her DU persona by him. If we all put our children in the first place, what would happen?
I've got a piece in mind called "the revolution is feminine". When women like you stop and think, and who knows, get in the streets or even simply stop washing clothes, soon all the bully politicians will be stinky bastards.
It's about time we took real CARE of our families.
Thank you for taking it out on FB.

(5,379 posts)I thought so too, what a beautiful idea in its simplicity. Yet, so much depth with the symbolic or dare I say mystic content.
It hasn't been spread very far (yet), but someone from Romania just signed. This initiative, even though a petition from the heart of Europe to a european agency, was first signed by 17 Americans. I like that symbolism, as well.
