Chinese human rights activist Chen Guangcheng spoke in New York on Thursday about his escape from house arrest and how Beijing should look to nearby nations, such as Japan and South Korea, for examples of democracy.
"The information age has developed so quickly. China's society has all gotten to the era where you don't want something known, you better not do it," Chen said. "I am very optimistic...I think China will be changing very quickly."
Though he expects for Beijing to look into his case, Chen had harsh words for Chinese leaders who do not respect their own Constitution. "You're supposed to be in charge of law and order...if you're not going to observe the law, how do you expect people to observe the law?" he asked. "What a terrible role model you are."

Interesting that he is quite optimistic about China's democratic future even though he and his family have been treated terribly by the Chinese government.
Sounds like he has been butting heads with the government for years now, so he should know as much about the power and purpose of the government as anyone does. Hope his optimism is well-founded.
