The lead poisoning of African American families is Flint Michigan is nothing more than a contemporary version of a Jim Crow era lynching. Just as separate but equal guaranteed less of everything for African Americans: education, jobs, medical care and access to good food and public places, poisoned water has become a new symbol of shame and hate. Michigans Republican Party and governor Schnieder have lynched Flint. The rope is poisoned water, the tree is is austerity budgeting and the executioner is Schnieder and his pack of greed driven, mob of wanna be rulers.

I personally think modern-day lynchings in which somebody is not indicted or is acquitted and yet the community calls for some sort of vendetta to punish the obviously-guilty party as closer to what Judge Charles Lynch did and what the practice named after him involved.
Closer than strained metaphors and extended analogies in need of detailed explanations.
