His base are people who themselves have been slammed, ignored, and ridiculed by the establishment, and it makes them all feel like Trump is one of them. If the Republicans ever want to be relevant again they better stop slamming and ridiculing the common people. And that goes double for the Democratic establishment. You can't get the support of people who you opening consider to be beneath you. Personally, I think the same dynamic is behind Bernie's success. The more the establish slams him the more the people believe "he's one of us."

So Trump and Bernie Sanders both owe their success to the same thing: the ridicule and contempt of the political establishment on both sides toward the real people.
