Outstanding Tip for DU Google Chrome Users

If you're like most active Internet inhabitants, there are times when you arrive at a website, perhaps from a link on another website, only to find yourself stuck with a locked up browser. Often, it's because a malware advertiser pops up one of those WARNING: YOUR COMPUTER IS INFECTED scams that keeps you from doing anything to get out of the situation without clicking something that will certainly download a noxious malware application. That leads to this tip, which works in most up-to-date versions of Chrome.

Do these things to protect yourself, along with having strong anti-malware and anti-virus protection. Note: This is only tested on Windows systems

1. As soon as you open Chrome and before doing anything else, press Shift-Esc. That will open the Chrome Task Manager in a small window on your screen. You don't need it right now, so click the minimize button on the new Task Manager window.

2. Use Chrome normally. If you land on a website that traps you in an inescapable loop like I described above, don't click anything in the open tab. Nothing. Don't do anything at all in that tab. Instead, click on the Google Task Manager button on your Windows task bar. That will pop up the Task Bar window over Chrome. Then, do this:

3. Identify the tab that is causing the problem in the list in the Chrome Task Manage and click on that name in the list.

4. Click End Task.

Problem solved. The offending tab or browser window will disappear and you can go back to normal browsing. Minimize the Chrome Task Manager again, in case you need it again later.

Note: If you use Chrome's Incognito browsing feature, you don't have to open a new copy of the Task Manager. That window will appear in the copy you already have open. If you do use End Task to close it, the window will remain, but whatever was in it will be gone.

I work in Chrome all day long every day for work and always have several tabs open to do what I do. This will come in handy!

I suppose if it ever did happen I'd hold the power button down until the machine shut down. Or unplug it and remove the batteries.

Then I'd build a new computer, preferably avoiding whatever operating system or software it was that screwed me.
