Forum Over Oregon Standoff Canceled Over Safety Concerns

http://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory/guns-policy-enforced-forum-oregon-standoff-36488895

A judge who planned to host a community meeting Monday over the standoff at an Oregon wildlife refuge has canceled it due to safety concerns.

Harney County Judge Steve Grasty said in a news release authorities had become aware of plans to protest the meeting and block the entrance to the county senior center, where it was to be held. Earlier Grasty had said that a no-guns policy would be strictly enforced at the meeting.

A spokeswoman for the county said Sunday afternoon she didn't have further information about the safety concerns or specifically who intended to block the senior center entrance.

An armed group led by Ammon Bundy has been occupying the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge since Jan. 2 to protest federal land use policies. Oregon lawmakers have been increasing their pressure on federal authorities to step in and end the occupation.

Anybody else doing this would be in jail. Threatening a judge? No problem for the Bundys. Follow around the spouses of people that work at the refuge? No problem for the Bundys. Pave over an archaeological site? No problem for the Bundys.

I am convinced that they are being protected. There is a major financial incentive here for people like the Koch brothers. They want all of our public lands to be sold to private interests so that they can profit.

is going on. I often feel like I'm not living in the US anymore, at least not the US I was born into. In past years/decades I doubt any of this would have been tolerated. This entire affair is getting damn bizarre. Even the governor seems paralyzed, now basically begging for Feds to move forward. Like WTF!!!!!! There is something really going on, like maybe they fear massive civil war or something.

Take a look a this, to me at least, it seems they are in violation all over the place. Maybe that's the plan, let them go so far they are locked up for years. Then, of course, the other, will Bundy ever pay the $1M in back taxes. Crap, if I owed a few dollars they would be all over me. Pinch me, am I in some totally bizarre dream or WTF!

But it would make a world of sense to have them preventing anyone from coming and going on the areas outside of the refuge. A few weeks of being stuck not getting any supplies in would likely inspire some of them to get a clue and turn themselves in.

The only problem is I could see these lunatics taking shots at National Guard personnel because they are part of "Big Government". That wouldn't end well for anyone.

I linked the whole thing up there.

It was canceled because there were threats.

The fact that it ended up being canceled because of threats should tell you right there why they wanted to keep weapons out of it.

This is a volatile situation. They have harassed the citizens of Harney County to the point where I wouldn't be surprised if it was a resident that fired the first shot at the Y'All Queda bunch.

Do you also advocate juggling lit torches near an open bucket of gasoline?

The fact that they can threaten a judge and citizens of Harney county pretty much demonstrates to me a perfectly good reason to limit the number of people in attendance and why they want to keep weapons out of any talks.

That's just asking for someone to fire the first shot, and it may not even be the Talibanjo - they've disrupted the citizens and harassed and intimidated them to the point where it wouldn't shock me if a resident was the one to do it.

Harney County Judge Steve Grasty said in a news release authorities had become aware of plans to protest the meeting and block the entrance to the county senior center, where it was to be held.

And was this planned protest "gun centric", or was it a protest over moving a public meeting to a tiny venue where only the tiniest portion of the public could be heard?

Because I've read quite a number of comments here and there about people being unhappy about this 'public meeting' being taken to what amounts to private.

That's a legitimate complaint, except, apparently, to you.

This is a volatile situation. They have harassed the citizens of Harney County to the point where I wouldn't be surprised if it was a resident that fired the first shot at the Y'All Queda bunch.

That's your opinion, not an established empirical fact.

Do you also advocate juggling lit torches near an open bucket of gasoline?

Sun Jan 24, 2016, 09:32 PM

On site there is an FBI agent in charge. Probably an ASAC. Every 5 Minutes he's giving the SAC in Portland an update. In turn The SAC is calling the US Attorney in Portland and the DOJ every ten minutes. Meanwhile DOJ has sent an onsite advisor (read spy) who is calling DOJ. The US Attotney is shifting his/her pants because they have political ambitions. So nobody wants to do anything that makes a static peaceful situation not peaceful. So tuck the law and tuck justice...nothing happens.

like nothing has for a long time; I want this taken care of... I love our public lands, our forests and parks, I have many wonderful memories of my time hiking in our public lands, and I care... I would be there fighting against them if I were in the right proximity... the men occupying the refuge are nothing but spoiled men who have never matured enough to understand how society works and have little respect for nature and other people unlike themselves...

... and I also am dismayed when people make judgements without all the facts... hence the letter

It really PO's me that jerks like this want to take it away from the population of the US. And even more PO's me that it appears the government is powerless to do much, lacks the willpower. To me, this will only lead to more situations like this. I don't want to see a massacre, but it seems more could be done. Maybe there is just a lot going on behind the scenes.
