Too bizarre for comment ...

Sheriff Glenn Palmer said in a statement to The Oregonian/OregonLive that "the government is going to have to concede something" to end the occupation of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge.
He said freeing a father-son ranching team from prison "would be a start. Sending the FBI home would be a start." He referred to the FBI's lead role in ending the refuge occupation.
"I just pray to God that cooler heads prevail and that no one gets killed," Palmer said.
The sheriff's endorsement of the militants' demands stunned law enforcement officials, most who would not publicly discuss the matter.
Malheur County Sheriff Brian Wolfe, who has been helping in Burns, said Palmer's position "doesn't help the cause. If anything, it hampers the effort to end this."

(3,811 posts)just like they are here in TN. Only requirement is a high-school diploma. Win the vote and you're the sheriff. Doesn't require that you have any knowledge whatsoever about US jurisprudence. Our county sheriff is a complete dumb-ass.

" Vote for X for Sheriff. He's never been indicted".
True story.

(46,735 posts)Do you all understand that there are anti-government factions all over this country who are salivating at the glands because they plan to follow in their footsteps if they succeed?
Palmer should be recalled.

(46,735 posts)President Obama said the the Republican party, today, is unrecognizable. What hasn't been said is that this faction of the Republican party has been slowly infiltrating every level of the right-wing anti-government core. Most Repubs are too stupid to realize what they have aligned with.
But Democratic DLC types are the worst because they think they have to go along with them, to get along. They are just enablers.

(67,111 posts)to comprehend they are missing the electorates wants. Instead, the DLC looks at bullies for guidance on how they should proceed. It has been a reckless venture! Depending on how the pendulum swings in 2016, we could see a dystopia for many citizens in the 21st century. Many, IMO, fail to recognize the cycles in history.

During a recent hearing on the issue, Palmer described the bill as borderline treasonous and received some support from participants including National Rifle Association lobbyist Dan Reid.

(4,229 posts)I totally agree that mandatory minimums are wrong.
However a lot of these guys supported republican candidates that put these policies in place.
Reagan was the president who passed legislation where they do "sting" operations, essentially luring a person into committing a crime and then busting them for it.
Reagan also ushered in widespread drug testing in the US.
Bush the Patriot act? Where were all the libertarians and militias then.
Whenever I hear a RW person saying the dems are going to take their guns I remind them that a LOT of the ways they could identify and round up guns without breaking the law were passed by the GOP.
