So I am hardly a Hillary fan. Yet I certainly wish her well in her primary battle with Bernie Sanders. So should all Republicans interested in winning in November.
If the Democrats really want to go into the general election behind Clinton, I certainly don't want to discourage them.
It is an article of faith among my Democratic friends, for example, that Clinton would demolish either of the two leading Republicans in November. In fact, the RealClearPolitics average of polls has Texas Sen. Ted Cruz beating Clinton by 1.8 points. Trump trails her by a mere 2.5 points in the polls. Meanwhile Sanders beats Trump by 5.3 and Cruz by 3.3.
There's a message in that for the Democratic leadership, and it's not a good one. The message is: All Bill and Hillary have in common is a last name.
You can judge a politician's talents by how he or she handles the media. Bill didn't dodge the press until the Lewinsky scandal, when he had to clam up for legal reasons. But he relished the opportunity to show he was smarter than reporters. His spiritual heir in this race is not his wife but Donald Trump, who never met a microphone he didn't like.
Hillary rarely holds press availabilities. She seems determined to run out the clock.
