Oregon: Grant County sheriff Glenn Palmer endorses the Bundy insurrection

BURNS – Leaders of the armed protesters holding the national bird sanctuary on Tuesday plan to push their anti-government agenda in Grant County, whose sheriff recommends the government give in to two of their key demands.

Sheriff Glenn Palmer said in a statement to The Oregonian/OregonLive that "the government is going to have to concede something" to end the occupation of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge.

He said freeing a father-son ranching team from prison "would be a start. Sending the FBI home would be a start." He referred to the FBI's lead role in ending the refuge occupation.

The sheriff's endorsement of the militants' demands stunned law enforcement officials, most of whom would not publicly discuss the matter.

Malheur County Sheriff Brian Wolfe, who has been helping in Burns, said Palmer's position "doesn't help the cause. If anything, it hampers the effort to end this."

Birds of a feather.

Had they been hippies, or black, or punks, or women, or anything but a bunch of misguided hillbilly bullies, they'd already be in jail.

Remember former Arizona Sheriff Richard Mack, who was with Cliven Bundy at Bunkerville and who was the one who told the press about their discussions about putting the women and children in front? It was Mack who founded the Constitutional Sheriffs and Peace Officers Association, of which Sheriff Glenn Palmer is a member.

I wonder if the FBI would have dared to show up at all, with a hostile local sheriff.

But apparently, that's all cool with Sheriff Palmer. Because... they hate the gubmint just as much as he does?

Sheriff Ward has been playing the hand dealt by the FBI, once they arrived on the scene. The feds are the decision-makers in this. He's made multiple statements about how the Bundy Bunch need to get lost and was obviously seething about the surveillance of his family, etc.

FFS, have you been reading anything beyond headlines about this debacle?

So Palmer has no particular jurisdiction regarding what's happening at Malheur. Annoying to see LEOs backing up this kind of lawlessness, though.

...you know that statement was fuckwittery of the first order. LEOs do not breaks ranks easily.

Grant County, btw, is directly to the north of Harney County, where this nonsense is going down. About the same population, but a little under half the size (so still very sparsely populated...a little over 7000 people in over 4500 square miles).

Isn't it nice that if you rob someone at gunpoint, trash their property, and threaten your victims with death in Grant County, the Sheriff there thinks that your victims are going to have to concede something to end your crime spree? The Sheriff would also be against imposition of any mandatory minimum sentence should you be haled into court and convicted of any of your special crimes.

Nitwit.
