You think he's a grandiose narcissist?
You think he's saying stupid stuff and doesn't care because he's invincible?
You think he's saying offensive stuff because he doesn't have to care what others think of him?
Now imagine a Donald Trump who has just been told by the republican voters that they want him to be President of the United States.
Imagine a Donald Trump who came out of nowhere and simply usurped a major political party by pure charisma.
A narcissist who has just been told that everybody loves him...
A self-proclaimed expert who has just been assured that he's infallible...
A bigot who has just been told that hate pays...
Please imagine how such a Donald Trump would behave on the campaign. And how moderate republican voters would start to see him.

He could win a general election depending on circumstances.
That is the most scary thought.

(733 posts)Trump has no political advisers.
He can run a campaign by himself with his money, but that just means that he hasn't built up a team dedicated to winning that actually can advise him on how to govern. As nominee, he will have to show that he can pick credible people.
Not gonna happen. .
Of course, the Republican party will soon realize that they have to get someone who can try to manage him, but no reputable republican will want to put his reputation on the line by being on Trump's fantasy team.
My worst fear is that Cruz will ooze his way into his cabinet, but it could be any of the campaigning grifters.
The upshot of a Trump (or any other Republican) presidency is that they will have won on promises that they can't keep, ensuring that their backers will eventually turn on him.

(7,633 posts)I am sure this guy knows how to get a team together. If he got the nomination, I fear he would pivot to the center to appeal to more people and put together a group of advisor relatively quick. Thats why he is more dangerous that we give him credit to.

(7,633 posts)Once he got the nomination by pandering to a very small fraction of the electorate (the RW people who also go to caucus),
he would pivot back towards the center and appear reasonable to enough people that he could win. He would play up on his experience as a businessman and how he would strengthen the economy etc. etc... He has enough charisma that he could pull it off since most of the electorate is ill-informed. 48 % or so of the votes would go for him no matter what if he carries the GOP nomination. Thats the way it goes. If he can convince another couple percents then he has it. (I know, its more complicated in practice because of the electoral college, but still..)
