Donald Trump : A moment of political genius

Throughout the GOP campaign Trump has been underestimated, particularly his keen ability to take out political oppoents, but his 'anchor baby' remarks about Cruz, rank right up there with the best. Do not underestimate this man.

"Cruz can't be President. He's's anchor baby from Canada".

Trump didn't actually say that, in so many words, but taken out of context, it's lethal. It's pure LBJ.

(LBJ) called his ... campaign manager and instructed him to call a press conference at two or two-thirty... and accuse his high-riding opponent (a pig farmer) of having routine carnal knowledge of his barnyard sows, despite the pleas of his wife and children... His campaign manager was shocked. 'We can't say that, Lyndon,' he said. 'It's not true.' 'Of course it's not,' Johnson barked at him, 'but let's make the bastard deny it.'

What Trump actually said was:

1. "Ted Cruz may not be a U.S. citizen, right?" - false (natural born probably)
2. "But he's an anchor baby" (? illegal immigrant parents ?)
3. "No, he's an anchor baby" (now that I've got your attention)
4. "Ted Cruz is an anchor baby in Canada"
5. "He can run for Prime Minister of Canada"

4. Is true. Until 2013, children born in Canada were automatically citizens. They are as known 'passport babies'. 1 & 5 are the LBJ plays, make Cruz deny it, but the last thing Cruz wants to talk about being born in Canada.

Cruz can deny he can run as Canadian PM, he renounced his citizenship, but then the conversation turns to being a Canadian only 18 months ago.

And finally we come to 'anchor babies' which links all of Trump's poisons together - "We have no country, we have no boarders, we've got a Canadian running for president, who would give amnesty to illegal folks anchored to the USA, like Mr Cruz himself."

This is formidable politics. A pack of lies, but Trump wants to hear Cruz talking about Canada and Anchor Babies. And Immigration reform and, and, and ...

1. He is actually a Canadian anchor baby. Not sure why his parents were both in Canada to begin with,

but they were there for years. His connection to the US is pretty thin, when you think about it.

he's an anchor baby in Canada"

It's the Saddam = 9/11 routine. Shout the headline, sotto voce the qualifications.

3. If Cruz is allegedly a "Canadian anchor baby", wouldn't that presuppose

that his country of origin would be the United States of America?

The premise of those accusing children born here in the States is that their citizenship is illegitimate, that they are actually citizens of Mexico, Central America, China, etc. and the Fourteenth Amendment doesn't confer rights of citizenship just because their mothers crossed the border to give birth here.
