Ammon Bundy issues new call for last occupiers to leave Oregon refuge

Speaking through his attorneys, jailed militia leader tells four holdouts at
Malheur wildlife refuge that there ‘was never meant to be an armed standoff’

Carol J Williams in Burns, Oregon
Saturday 30 January 2016 20.24 GMT

The jailed militia leader Ammon Bundy has again appealed to the four people still occupying the Malheur national wildlife refuge in south-east Oregon to surrender, saying the protest he led there “was never meant to be an armed standoff”.

In a cellphone call from the Multnomah County jail in Portland, where Bundy and other activists have been held on federal felony charges since their arrests and the fatal shooting of activist Robert LaVoy Finicum in a traffic stop on Tuesday, the Idaho rancher told the remaining occupiers to “go home to your families”.

“Please do not make it about something it wasn’t supposed to be,” Bundy said in the call to his attorneys, Mike Arnold and Lissa Casey, who taped the conversation and relayed it to the holdouts at the refuge 30 miles north-east of Burns.

Bundy’s “militia” group seized the headquarters buildings of the 187,000-acre refuge on 2 January, to demand that the public lands be released to local control.

On Saturday, Bundy’s wife, Lisa, seated next to the attorneys, issued a separate appeal to the four to bring the nearly monthlong confrontation to an end.

DID intend it to be an armed standoff. we all know that you are just playing a pretend sympathy card now. was going to say that I hope you rot in jail, but, actually, sick that the taxpayers have to support you yet again.

“Several of them told him to go away ... David refused, so they kicked him out of the vehicle on the side of the road.” That means when the militants had the chance to take him with them, to effectively get him off the refuge, they instead threw him out of the car. Now, some of those same militants are urging him to leave, so they can be bailed out of jail ...

Moe, Larry, Shemp, & Curly in " Home, Home 'n Deranged"

Wacky hijinx ensue as the four stooges accidentally sleep-in while their militia skeedaddles. Fearing a zombie apocalypse or maybe the rapture, they hunker down under a tarp with a flashlight and a box of Little Debbie Snack Cakes. Their erstwhile boss attempts to command his bungling troops from the Hoosegow pay phone. Being a bunch of drunks without military training (unlike General Ammo who was a drunk who studied Stratego), they mistake General Ammo Jeebus and double down on a second coming/zombie apocalypse/rapture scenario where they will lose all their guns and maybe god's testing them and the something, something, "psy-ops"..or maybe "cyclops". At least that's what Moe starts babbling because he's running out of Clomipramine and Redbull.

Most of the new information in the Guardian reporting is coming from that.

Well worth reading the entire thing. It clarifies a lot of the dynamics of what we were seeing in the earlier days.
