but they're flower buds!!! it's the beginning of February, flower buds don't start now.....what the heck is going on with this plant?? Oh and would have posted this in the garden section, but topics go there to die, no discussions since 2014. So any ideas as to why this plant is setting flower buds now?? Thanks.

(912 posts)It blooms around Thanksgiving some years and closer to Easter others! I think they just react to how the light, watering etc. are. I am just going to call mine a flowering cactus now, they flower in their own time Enjoy your blooms!

(6,123 posts)...they will set buds numerous times during the year. In order to set buds they must have a period of cooler temps. When we turn down the heat at night it is cool enough to set buds.

(359 posts)in my office window. I rescued it over 10 years ago from a co-worker who didn't take care of it. I transplanted it once, and feed it once a week with Schultz Liquid Plant Food (along with water of course). I've been following this regimen for years. It bloomed once, about 3 years ago - one or two blooms.
Now, in the past couple of weeks, it's going crazy! I have 13 blooms, and nine more buds - beautiful pink flowers. A couple of buds never opened and dropped off before they bloomed. I don't know what that's about. I also don't know why it's suddenly "bustin' out all over" but I'm enjoying it while it lasts. Everybody in the office is coming over to look at it.
