Warning about a credit card scam going on.

Has anyone gotten a phone card from "Card Services"? Has phone number on your caller ID come up 972-300-0001?

This is a major scam. These people are fishing for credit card numbers. My friend called thinking something was wrong with her Bank card (had a master card logo on it) and found that when she called the person on the phone asked her name and ask her to verify which branch she banks at. Then they asked to have her give the date of expression on the card which she did BUT when she was asked to verify IE read her card number to the person My friend said no. IF you are really my bank you should know that information.

The person on the line than called my friend a Dumb M___ F_Ck and hung up.

My friend called her bank to verify they called no one did.

A second friend of mine got the same call and told the person on the end that she had no credit cards at all (which she doesn't) She wanted to know how they got her number and why where they calling her. Person told her they needed her to verify her name address and phone number before they answered any of my friend's questions. My friend reminded them that they called her to which she was informed she was being a difficult customer and her credit card was being canceled. She again informed the person that she does not own a credit card to which the person on the phone retorted that my friend was either too cheap or poor to have one and hung up on her.

I just felt I needed to inform you.

seems like they could take that information and report to police or credit card companies...

Gotta help them...

I don't answer numbers I don't know, so I got a voice mail. In all 4 cases, I did NOT call the number the message said to call. Instead, I called the # on the back of my card and told them what the message said, and each turned out to be a scammer.

If there is one in your state, report this there.

(consumer protection bureau)

They'll want dates, times, phone numbers of calls. Your state Attorney General might be a good place to report it as well.

I've been getting calls from them for years.

They spoof the phone number, so my telephone company can't block them.

Cardholder services has even called my state's attorney general's office.
I called the NC AG to ask if there was any way to stop the calls.
The AG's office says that when they and other states ran cardholder services out of some states, that
the company (or others using same scam) went offshore.

If you change your phone number, that won't guarantee a stop in the calls.

Cardholder services even calls some FBI agents.

Oh I'm on the do not call and many many times I've picked the option to not get the calls again,
but they call almost every day. Around 10 AM.

Last time they called, I picked the option to speak to the agent, and then I told her that eventually she and the rest of the folks at the call center would be going to jail, that it was just a matter of time.

Because with all of this phone and wire tapping our govt does, surely they can catch these scammers.

or (like Matthew Broderick in War Games) call EVERY number within a geographic exchange. If your number is listed in directories, they can get your name and address easily. Then all they need is information from you about one of your credit cards.

Other more desperate scammers know the meanings of credit-card prefixes and randomize the rest of the credit card digits for a bold charge directly to your account. They don't need a very high percentage of such charges to go through to make plenty of easy money from those who don't check their monthly bills carefully.

These people are slick and, often fueled by hard drug addiction, sometimes don't really care whether they get caught eventually. There are tens of thousands of them. What a sick society.

hang up. I managed to keep 1 on the line for a while once, leading her on. She finally caught on, cussed at me and hung up. I can not imagine people having to take those sorts of jobs, how demeaning.

If there's any doubt about a call being real, call the number on the back of your card.

There is nothing in the taped call to let you opt out.
I just hang up or let the answering machine get it, in which case the robot hangs up.
Irritating and illegal.

Anyone legitimate who really needs to speak to me will leave a message. Even if I get a call from my real credit card company, I usually tell them I'll call them back to be sure I've got the right people, and I've never gotten any aggravation from a credit card company for doing this.

22. Caller ID is my friend now ~ thanks for the information

and BLOCK CALL is my friend now too.

My friend had some fool call and say he wanted to marry her.
She called the sheriff and they came and took a report, they told her that they could not do anything for her until he treated her life --- She told them to call the number on THEIR Phone and they did but no one answered..

Since then he has called her one more time but his number was already blocked --- sounded like a foreign accent my friend told me.
Two days later he called her cousin!
How he got her cousins name I do not know.
Her cousin threatened him and he has not called back so far.

I suggested my friend get Security Cameras all over her house.
She was so afraid.

Then another friend suggested that we all get "Fake Security Cameras" so anyone that tried to come in our yard or on our property will at least get a bit afraid.
: (

It sure is cheaper and for $8 a piece it looks just we have real security. : )

It is frightening and several of my friends have said that they have had crazy calls too or emails saying stuff like " Your friend John is in Europe please click this email and let him know where you can send him the $$'s. They didn't click or send anything.

Another friend said that somehow some group/gang from jail ??
knows how to steal the Program from your Direct Television --- satellite??
Anyway, The Company had to reinstall her service - took them about 6 hours to do it.

PS/ The Do Not Call List is no help
Here we call it the "Call Me List" because at least two times each day we are called.
So - I block any numbers I don't recognize immediately.

My message says --- " If you don't have my permission to leave a message, hang up NOW!"

So far it is working but who knows
