SNAP Participation Has Decreased by Almost Two Million Since 2011

With all the talk about President Obama being the "welfare President", trying to destroy America, or trying to make America more like Europe it might be surprising to learn that SNAP participation, although still high, has decreased by nearly two million since 2011. In 2011 SNAP participation reached a high of 47 million users. As of November 2015 the number has dropped to about 45.5 million.

Maybe they have found employment. The unemployment rate is down from 2011.

the poverty rate is 19%. For the people who are working and still living in poverty, the economic indicators are meaningless. Especially when they are having trouble feeding their children.

We all know you can eat well if you make $950 a month. But, we have faith based initiatives so it's all good. Right?

Sure. Right.

Even with population growth that's a decrease in the absolute number of people in poverty.

and only 2 million have moved off of SNAP participation is not a good sign. You would hope that the number moving off of SNAP participation would be higher.
