He married somebody that was a contestant on Family Feud. Apparently was a smoker.

"Dawson parodied his TV persona in 1987 by co-starring alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger in the action film The Running Man, in which he portrayed the evil, egotistical game-show host Damon Killian. Of Dawson's performance film critic Roger Ebert (who gave the film itself thumbs down) wrote, "Playing a character who always seems three-quarters drunk, Dawson chain-smokes his way through backstage planning sessions and then pops up in front of the cameras as a cauldron of false jollity. Working the audience, milking the laughs and the tears, he is not really much different than most genuine game show hosts—and that's the film's private joke."[3]"

I knew him mostly as a guy from MatchGame 75 which I probably watched daily during the summer when I was 13 and which later became MatchGame 76, and MatchGame 77. He was often the one with the "definitive answer". Then later I saw him on Hogan's Heroes re-runs, and FF which I (survey says) more rarely watched.

There was a DUer Arwalden who used to play MatchGame in the Lounge.

We really don't know these people we see on TV every day. That was a moving speech, and it is probably true. But for all we know, these people could be in one of those ads "I am not a nice person, but I play one on TV...."

But I always liked the Dawson.

That was very beautiful. I never saw that side of Richard Dawson before and I have no doubt he was being totally genuine here.

Thank you.

She was born some years after this - I wonder if this Nicole was the inspiration for his daughter's name.

He was known for kissing all of the female contestants while on Family Feud. Apparently some people got all up in arms because he kissed women of *gasp* ALL races and ethnicities! If only he'd kissed a male contestant...

Like someone else said, no one really knows any of these celebrities personally (unless you actually do know them), but I always liked Dawson.
