Romney adviser dismisses women’s issues as ‘shiny objects

Mitt Romney’s senior campaign adviser, Eric Fehrnstrom, on Sunday said that social issues important to women, like contraception coverage and abortion rights, were “shiny objects” that were being used to distract voters.

David Plouffe, one of President Barack Obama’s top aides, last week told New York Magazine that Democrats needed to be clear about what a Romney presidency would mean for women’s rights and other social issues.

“Potentially abortion will be criminalized,” Plouffe said.”Women will be denied contraceptive services. He’s far right on immigration. He supports efforts to amend the Constitution to ban gay marriage.”

This guy seems to go from one gaffe to another. The Ramney campaign will likely throw him overboard by the time of the conventions.

They may be conservative in many ways, but they are not going back into the kitchen, barefoot & pregnant. They like their birth control & they like that their daughters have birth control.

From telling John Fugelsang about the etch a sketch or getting
in a reporter's face after he asked Romney a tough question
Fehrnstrom has a real "tin ear" when it comes to putting the
best face on Mitt's campaign.

That is not how to answer that question or the statement.

Campaign talk 101:

Question So how does your candidate feel about women's health issues?

Answer Mr. or Ms. X is a strong supporter of a women's right to
do what she wants to do however he/she also knows that a growing
economy is a big help to all women and as President that will be job
# 1. (and from there jabber on and on about the economy and change
the subject from what is a sure losing point for the majority of women
and talk about nothing for @ least 90 seconds after which you get the
hell out of there)

Priebus refers to caterpillars (referencing women in the pug war on women's rights).
Fehrnstrom refers to shiny objects (re: same).

WTF is wrong with these guys and pugs in general?

could be some pick up for the president with republican women over it but it's not the election. These issues will be good fundraising letter filler for the president but not the issues that will determine the swing states where the election is.

Oh, so we're NOT supposed to care about women's issues, despite women being 51% of the pop. and 80% of the retail market consumers?
Talk about insensitive! I'd hate to see what he feels about prison reform or urban crime! Are those issues "shiny objects" too, Mitt?

And the President is not the one bringing up the issues! It's the rethugs who wanna ban everything to make the crazy voters happy!

Mitt can't control the rethugs. They've lost their mind and this guy is case study #3 as to why.
