(21,078 posts)never seen a shot quite like that. Tiger hopefully has a second wind and is on his way. I did enjoy watching Levin, he has a great future, played a beautiful game. One of the announcers said "Mamas, don't let your kids grow up to play golf." It was pretty funny, the frustration for Levin was palpable also for Sabbatini, but that is the game of golf. A hero on nine, a bum on fourteen...LOL.

(269,063 posts)even Jack said he had never seen one like that or so the announcer said.
I never write off a genius - in any sphere - they can always deliver again.

(2,397 posts)It wasen't Tiger, but the show was to the fat side of the green--downhill out of the beach(another term for the dredded sandtrap). The ball kept rolling, and rolling for several yards before falling in.

He is a QT

That gives all of us hope that we should keep trying to reach for the stars.

(24,853 posts)Apology for that, BUT...
Woods dominated the news cycle for months when word of his infidelities came out. This is news to some because of the "bad-boy does good" aspect I think.
Besides, I'm not a big fan of how DU is so compartmentalized these days.

(8,419 posts)When he wins it is all smiles, all is good, treats reporters with respect. When he loses he is one of the BIGGEST FUCKING ASSHOLES in all of sports. He, along with Kobe Bryant, is someone I actually like to see fail.
Now, this has nothing to do with his personal life. If Tiger came out and said, "I like fucking hookers and porn stars," and brought game, then fine. My issue is he wants the corporate money, but exhibits little to zero class when he isn't on top.
Flame away, but I dislike both Kobe and Tiger, to me they are typical Republican assholes to the core.

I've met quite a few (most of them race car drivers) and find the characteristic you seem to be deriding as common. Many are nice as hell when they are doing well, but if they are having a bad day/race/week/month. Whatever, watch out!
I understand fighter pilots share the trait. It's called " competitiveness"

(30,404 posts)I say Go Tiger and Go Kobe ~

(8,419 posts)There are quite a few superstars that are much better at balancing competitiveness and being a dick. Arnold Palmer wasn't a dick, Magic wasn't a dick. Joe Montana, Terry Bradshaw, Kareem, Russel, Chamberlin, Mickelson, Jim Brown, plenty of Yankees. Both Tiger and Kobe are self centered DICKS!
Edit to add:
K-Rod Dick!, Jeter not a Dick! Get it!
Isiah Thomas DICK, Joe Dumars - Not a DICK
Kobe and Tiger are so self absorbed that they don't comprehend how shallow they are. It has nothing to do with being champions or competitive, it has everything to do with being completely unaware of their actions.
A HERETIC I AM
(24,371 posts)I've met Mr. Palmer. Perhaps not a dick, but he certainly liked his drink, and he got it on with regularity. All the rest of those you mentioned ALL have their dark spots and YOU KNOW IT. Chamberlain claimed to have boffed a record number of women., as an example.
It's funny, but I'll bet you have never met either Kobe or Tiger and if you have, haven't passed more than 2 words with either of them.
As I said - competitiveness. Not everyone has it, but it is most certainly true that those that have reached the top of their game DO have it.
So...
They seem like dicks to you. Fine.
I'm happy to watch them play, nevertheless.
rufus dog
(8,419 posts)You disparage Palmer, but he wasn't a fucking DICK. When he won he did it with honor and when he lost he did it with honor. Kobe and Tiger don't get that, it makes them DICKS. If they don't win it is because something went against them, if they do win it is because they are so damn talented.
Not saying others don't feel the same, I am saying that others are much better at giving credit to others and having a degree of humility.
It has nothing to do with Kobe's and Tiger's off court decisions, it has everything to do with how the conduct themselves when things aren't going their way.
Tiger with his sour demeanor and Kobe with his cheap shot elbows.
Others lose with grace, these two are DICKS.
And finally do you sleep with them, what the hell is this I know them meme?

(29,322 posts)Sounds like they're sports fans. I'm serious, this seems like the attitude most sports fans have about their team.
Anyways I saw curious to see what Kobe quotes I can find after the Thunder-Lakers serious and it appears he did credit them.
"We had the game under control, but this team is extremely explosive," Kobe Bryant said, feeling the need to repeat that last part in case anyone missed his point: "Just extremely explosive."

(29,322 posts)for some reason passed the test. GD was like this during the '09 Masters. It was funny when Redbear posted a Lee Westwood status update and it was locked quickly, testing to see if it was OK to post here when it came to another golfer.
