The cornerstone of socialism is having the means of production owned and operated by the government and the economy centrally planned. Socialism without that is not socialism.
A social democracy on the other hand, is a system that still operates on capitalism, but which puts greater emphasis on the government providing basic human services like health care for all.
Every time I hear Sanders or his supporters explain democratic socialism, I hear 'social democracy'

(14,755 posts)Cut out the part that says DS is Medicare, SS, roads, the military, public schools and that it doesn't do away with corporations or the free market, and that would be enough.
