Wow, they are throwing the book at them.
The 5 defendants are going to be very busy going back and forth between Portland and Las Vegas for the next few years. And they're going to get very very tired of talking to attorneys.
A federal grand jury indicted Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy and four others Wednesday with a raft of felony charges related to a 2014 armed standoff at Bundys ranch.
Bundy and his sons Ammon and Ryan Bundy as well as Montana resident Ryan Payne and Ohio conservative Internet radio show host Pete Santilli were charged with a total of 16 felonies.
The charges were:
1 count of conspiracy to commit an offense against the United States
1 count of conspiracy to impede or injure a federal officer
4 counts of using and carrying a firearm in relation to a crime of violence
2 counts of assault on a federal officer
2 counts of threatening a federal law enforcement officer
3 counts of obstruction of the due administration of justice
2 counts of interference with interstate commerce by extortion
1 count of interstate travel in aid of extortion
The maximum penalties for each of the charges against the men range from five to 20 years in prison. Each charge carries a maximum fine of $250,000.

Looks like there's gonna be a ranch for sale down in southern NV by next year.

(1,484 posts)It is my understanding that the ranch is already under the weight of a crushing federal lien for non payment of grazing fees. In fact, the Bundy Bunch may even have to hock their gunz in order to secure mediocre legal representation.

(86,647 posts)likely scenario. If any of them ever do get out of prison, they won't have anything but probable debt. Ammo has that business in Idaho for which he secured a federal loan... that has to be paid back too. They really made a mess of their personal lives but the church will probably help them quietly.,, it's SOP for that group.

(5,940 posts)I'm hoping that, on reflection, you may agree that rape isn't really something to joke about or celebrate on DU, and self-delete the post. I guess I'd say the same goes for post #5 above.
Thanks.

Funny, I have been waking up in the morning and wondering how these criminals feel every time they wake up and realize where they are... and then I get up and enjoy my day knowing I am not one of them.

(65,408 posts)federal agents during the Bundy ranch standoff. They should. At the very least that fool is probably starting to feel nervous, since he has probably up to now figured that since nothing had been done for so long, nothing would ever be done. Charging Clive and the other 4 this long afterward is bound to have Parker looking over his shoulder.

(86,647 posts)and he's probably holed up in his secret prepper bunker in Idaho. If/when he comes out, I hope he gets nabbed too. Might have to be a little more patient about that. the thing is, they have all the cell phones with the contacts lists and maybe other stuff that can help catch some others too.

(11,443 posts)When they complete all the detail work at the Oregon site, there will be many, many more. Weapons and explosives all over the place, ditches full of poop on protected Indian land, damages to Federal property, threatening Federal law enforcement, and the list goes on. These clowns will be in jail for decades except the ones that get on their knees, spill their guts, and start turning in the others not yet in the pokey. There are going to be lots of tight assholes out West the next few weeks.

(19,066 posts)Reading more about this terrorist, it seems he didn't even care for his cattle properly, letting them run wild and fend for themselves, of course all of this on our property. He was a lazy rancher who basically relied on the public to feed his cattle, many of which were sick or injured.
Guy was a free loader, plain and simple. This was all an effort to get free stuff for he and his family.

(17,064 posts)Is that the government was subsidizing 93% of his grazing fees. Charging him $.07 for every dollar a private landowner would charge for grazing. All he had to do was to follow a few basic rules, and pay his fees. Instead, the moron racks up a million in debt and fees, hundreds of thousands in legal fees and fines, loses his house and ranch, spends years in jail, and loses right to own guns, vote, and run for office. What a fucking moron. Unfortunately, that lesson will be lost on the other patriot morons who will view him as a martyred victim of government 'tyranny'.
