Retired Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor says President Barack Obama should name Antonin Scalia's replacement.
O'Connor, a nominee of President Ronald Reagan who became the court's swing vote until she retired from the bench in 2006, broke with Republicans who say they plan to block Obama's nominee, and want his successor to name the next justice.
"I don't agree (with Republicans)," O'Connor said in an interview with Phoenix-based Fox affiliate KSAZ. "We need somebody in there to do the job and just get on with it."
She noted that it's unusual to for a Supreme Court opening to exist in an election year, saying that the proximity to the presidential race "creates too much talk around the thing that isn't necessary."

(24,461 posts)The "swing vote" that installed the Shithead Scion gets no love.
Here's a Brillo pad, Sandy. Clean the blood off yer hands.

(24,414 posts)because she reportedly wanted to retire under a Republican President?
How magnanimous of her to be supportive of President Obama doing what he is supposed to be his right and privilege as POTUS- and something, I might add, has NEVER been called into question before.

(24,461 posts)It's not like she didn't know about his benefitting from serial wingnut welfare thanks to Poppy and his various cronies (to that note, the Failure Fuhrer dished out some of that welfare during his presidency).
She knew better and did the wrong thing. She knew Bewsh was a partying, sociopathic, do-nothing dry drunk incompetent with a horrible political record and even worse business resume. Mrs. 5-4 did the wrong thing for purely selfish and partisan reasons. But hey, she can sleep at night, unlike thousands upon thousands of families worldwide whose loved ones were killed thanks to his "decidin'".
To top that off, her replacement was a dozen times worse (Sam Alito, who we're stuck with for decades).

(58,670 posts)not "right and privilege" damn it. Duty. It's his job and he will do it.
Sorry, but calling it a "right and privilege" is RWer-speak to weasel out of it.

(15,943 posts)Even though she played a critical part in the Bush V Gore debacle, at least she is correct in this fight!
I don't believe the Great Obstructionist Party will give 2 ratsass about it though.
Thx for the thread, malaise
