Its not about any one particular nominee, Carrie Severino, chief counsel and policy director of the conservative legal organization Judicial Crisis Network, told TPM. We know exactly the kind of person (Obama) is going to appoint. Getting into those details is just a silly distraction....................
Weve known this was coming for while. We set aside resources for this fight because everyone knows the next president is likely to have maybe three nominations to make, Severino said. She wouldnt go into details about her groups next moves when it comes to halting the Obama nominee, but said were totally prepared for it, including financing the effort.

Levey said. The very fact that people on our side feel very strongly that there shouldnt be a hearing before we know the nominee is because its not really about the nominee. ... Frankly, the real objection here is to Obama.

(14,400 posts)I don't think anything she said is the least bit surprising. A more ideological twit there has never been.
It's kind of telling that when Cheney and his minions were running the show, this dolt called her little money making gambit the Judicial Confirmation Network because the goal was to get shrubbos nominees through as quickly as possible.
I hope Obama and the Democrats give these people ulcers by playing with them for the next several months.

(4,229 posts)Does that mean they will immediately give the next president a pass on whomever??
If so how about if Clinton wins and she nominates Obama?? Gonna pass that one right thru?

(1,098 posts)Of course Republicans want to replace Scalia with another far-right nut, and they'll justify their attempt to stall President Obama's nomination by claiming that he's going to replace Scalia with yet another far-left extremists. Because apparently Justices Sotomayor and Kagan are Marxist-loving, underarm-hair-braiding commie hippies...
What they don't realize is this is their best chance to have a new SCJ who doesn't necessarily lean far to the left. They have the Senate majority and a Democrat is President, and there's an opportunity here to compromise and appoint someone whose politics are more down the center line.
Republicans are gambling on the hope that they'll retain the Senate majority AND get a Republican President in November. However, it could very well go the other way and we'll end up with a Democratic Senate majority and a Democratic President, and then there really would be a chance to nominate and appoint a SCJ who is rather progressive.
