Baby Dolphin Dies After Tourists Pass It Around For Selfies

Not The Onion, unfortunately.

https://www.yahoo.com/news/baby-dolphin-dies-after-tourists-pull-it-from-124230809.html

A rare baby dolphin has died on the beach after selfish tourists pulled it from the ocean so they could take selfies with it.

Shocking footage from Santa Teresita beach in Buenos Aires, Argentina, shows the body of the marine mammal lying motionless on the floor as dozens of people surround it.

The Franciscana dolphin had been passed around between sun worshippers while they took out their phones and posed for pictures.

It was then dumped on the side to die from dehydration and overheating from exposure to the sun.

It's beach weather and the resort towns bloat with tourists.

For the record, the marine parks take pictures and mulct some more $$ out of you by selling them to you.

"There are approximately 30,000 La Plata dolphins left, and they’re only found off the coasts of Argentina, Uruguay and Brazil. The Argentinian Wildlife Foundation issued a statement reminding the public that the dolphins are a vulnerable species."

It was a breathing, living being. It wasn't a prop to be used in some silly pics.

It doesn't surprise me, though. Idiots take pics and videos when human lives are at risk, why wouldn't they do it with a dolphin? Technology is a doubled-edged sword.

RIP, baby dolphin.

BTW, Santa Teresita is a town by the ocean. It's hours from the city of Buenos Aires. It's in the province of Buenos Aires. It's like saying that something happened in upstate NY, hours away from NYC.

I've encountered wild porpoises myself while swimming. I was approached by one which appeared to be curious or just interested in me for some reason. It was fascinating, but I never ventured to touch the creature. It hung around for a couple of minutes, looking at me from up close, and then swam off.

I can't imagine these people acting as they did.
