With treasonous Republicans threatening the state of our nation by ignoring their constitutional duty and refusing to hold hearings for any Obama nominee to the Supreme Court:
President O should make a recess appointment (but he might have to hurry as the repukes will probably play games to pretend they are never on recess again for the rest of the year); that appointment will last until the the end of 2017 (Congressional elections mark the cycle) and should be of someone extremely well qualified and highly progressive.
Then, suit should be brought on all the important issues that the right-wingnuts on the Court have rammed down the throats of our people and including the redistricting process. Keep on pressing until they reach the Supreme Court.
The idea is that we have time to overturn some of the worst bullshit, and MAYBE even get a ruling for drawing perfectly acceptable, rational districts which will make it much easier for the Dems to retake the House. Then we can close down, once and for all, the voter suppression and all other fascistic moves these assholes have cursed us with!

the required "recess" appointment-wise.

COLGATE4
(14,732 posts)opinion that Obama would be better off facing it head on and submitting a nomination to the Court. However the more I think about it the more I am concerned that, if Obama goes that (as he has said he will) his nominee will be a lukewarm Democrat just barely palatable to the Rethugs who will turn out to be a very unreliable swing vote in 4-4 cases of major importance pending in the court right now; Right to Choose, Voter Suppression, etc. etc. I don't believe it's in Obama's nature to nominate a strong reliable Democrat to the post, even though we have several exceptionally good candidates. So, given that, I thnk I'd prefer an interim apointee, with the full-timer to be appointed by the next Democratic President.
