Rubio?

Understanding Republicans is hard I know but....

I simply don't get it.

Look, he is clearly their establishments' only hope (thanks to their leadership losing control to their own PR machine) but what chance does he really have in the general election?
From their point of view all their rabid base will be completely pissed off.
I'm not a "looks Presidential" type but he looks like a kid. To me. And I'm only a few years older than him.
He's shaky, at best, in public speaking. No, this isn't about the "water bottle" thing. He just is erratic.

I don't get it.

He's young and Hispanic and from Florida - is that it? They think they can just check off demographic blocks and everything will take care of itself?

Rubio is their best chance to not win the White House, but to keep the status quo downticket.

2. They've always thought 'checking off demographic boxes' would carry the day.

They assumed the reason Obama won was because he 'checked off a demographic box'.

They simply don't understand that the candidate himself or herself is far less important than the policies that come along with that candidate.

5. I live in Florida. Rubio is sort of doughy and featureless as a politician.

I think that is his strength. I can't imagine him having the intellect to be president, but then I thought - hell, they ran Sarah Palin.
Plus, GOP voters just really don't care about any illegalities or transgressions.

They think they can just check off demographic blocks and everything will take care of itself?

Isn't that what Hillary's campaign is doing? All day long we hear about the Latinos, the POC, the female vote, etc. I just laughed at an OP that opined that boomers - like myself - just don't get Bernie. Um, yes, I do, that's why I support him. But it illustrates how some folks are fixated on strict demographic divisions, for better or for worse.

so don't be thinking he has to be all that good at public speaking. He just has to say all the stuff they want him to say, although it would help his cause if he wasn't so robotic in this regard. The Republicans will hope their vicious and vile attack ads will carry him into the White House.
