1. Immigration status history.
Models very often start working under the table before they get a permanent green card. In Melania's interview, she says she was here legally until she got her green card. Every few months, she went back to Slovenia for a renewal until she got her green card. This is how people work under the table without overstaying their tourist visa. Question: what visa could she have held that would have allowed her to do this legally? How did she not get an H1b visa (yes, models can get them)? If she had an h1b visa, she wouldn't have had to take multiple trips. Green cards aren't awarded to someone without a good history with an employer. How do you get a green card so early-- it usually takes 10 years on an h1b? What is the timeline of her visas and her relationship with the Donald? Did she sleep her way to legal status? How did someone pull strings to get her to the head of the list?
How did she live in NYc without employment? Could have lived on savings?
Between age 18 and 26, what was she doing? She started off doing photo shoots in Paris and Milan and then finally settled in NY at age 26 (assume green card?). When did she get involved with trumps modeling agency. Did they sponsor her green card?
2. Tax evasion
Were her taxes paid properly? What was the basis for her residence in Slovenia ?
Ditto for Ivana.
Keep talking Melania. We want to know your story.

(62,444 posts)This "going after the wife" thing is a poor strategy. I am reminded of the "happy giddy dance" on DU a few years back on the basis that John McCain's wife had a history of drug problems and questionable financial management of her charity.
Melanoma is not running for any office, and whatever circumstances may have placed her in the US prior to meeting Trump, doesn't have squat to do with Trump.

Trump is such a fat target that this sort of thing is simply mean-spirited and petty. She's his wife, she's here, and that's all anyone is going to care.

(62,444 posts)First, you have utterly nothing to back up "working illegally".
Second, if she was, it was before she met him.
Third, look how well the divorced Ronald Reagan went over with the "family values" crowd.
There's a jackass that shows up on DU every couple of months with similar theories about how Jeb Bush's wife is "really an illegal immigrant".
Going with an attack against someone's lawfully married wife on the grounds that you have suspicions about her because "she's a furriner" is just gutter stuff.

(62,444 posts)She speaks English just fine. Yes, she has an accent. So what?
This is the same sort of bigoted bullshit my mother had to put up with as a native Austrian who became a war bride and came to the US.
Throughout her career as an environmental activist and a political candidate, she had to put up with the same shit from people like you over "she's sound Russian" and similar comments on her accent.
And, yeah, she was quite a looker back in the day. So what?
Do you think Arianna Huffington "barely speaks English"?

Because they aren't running on an anti immigrant position for president.
Btw, for the record, I am for a legal path to citizenship. Working in the shadows is too abusive. People fleeing from violence in Latin America need to work in the us legally.

(7,170 posts)Trump has commented on Melania's bathroom behavior.
In a separate 2004 appearance, Trump engaged in an especially peculiar conversation about his girlfriend Melania (now his wife), saying he had never witnessed her pass gas or defecate.
Trump, referencing an earlier conversation with Stern, said, You said something a while ago about Beth (Sterns girlfriend) that amazed me, because it applies to Melania. You said youve never seen here do anything like, bad, in terms of her own personal.
You said youve never heard her fart. Is that true? Is that amazing? In years, three and a half years, Trump continued. Stern told Trump that his girlfriend had only pooped four times in three years.
Im gonna say, I can say the exact say thing about Melania, Trump responded.
Stern then asked Trump if Melania ever makes a doody. Trump replied, Ive never see any, its amazing. Maybe they save that for after marriage.
Asked about former wife Ivanas bowel movements, Trump said, It was a little more normal.

(7,170 posts)Stern asked some probing questions about Trump's relationship with model Melania Knauss, who is now his wife, in a 2003 interview.
Asked whether Knauss was taking birth control pills, Trump said yes. Stern then ribbed Trump about his second wife, Marla Maples, whose unplanned pregnancy gave him his daughter Tiffany.
"I bet you still pull out, just to make sure?" Stern asked.
"No, I don't. [Melania's] just amazing," Trump said.

(7,170 posts)Melania would be the only known first lady who once posed nude - for the British edition of GQ, on a bearskin rug on Trump's private jet before they were married in 2000,
She told Howard Stern that same year, 'We have incredible sex at least once a day. Sometimes even more.'
Trump bragged about Melania's hotness in a 'very small thong.'

(7,170 posts)Melania was born in 1970. Started her modeling career at age 12 by winning a contest.
Was photographed in Slovenia by famous photographer, Steve jerko,
Introduced at a party in 1998, one year after he had split from his second wife, Marla Maples, "I saw Melania and I said, 'Who is that?' " Trump recalls. "She was a very successful model. She was terrific. I tried to get her number, and she wouldn't give it to me."
Why the cold shoulder?
"He came to the party with a date!" Melania explains, laughing. "I had heard he was a ladies' man, and so I said, 'I'm not one of the ladies.' He said later that he sent her to the ladies' room so he could get my number. I was like, 'Oh what a sneaky way!' "
Still, Melania says she liked his "sparkle" and took his number. After returning from a modeling gig in the Caribbean, she called him, and on their first date, "we talked for almost the whole night," she says. . -- People magazine [link:http://www.people.com/article/donald-trump-melania-wife-relationship-marriage|
So Melania started dating Trump when she was 28 and he was 46.
She did work for two agencies -- Irene Marie ( out of Palm Beach, closed in 2009) and Trump modeling agency.
She became a permanent resident of us (has a green card) in 2001 and married Trump in 2005. Got citizenship in 2006 (perfectly legal being married to Us citizen). It's easy to get confused about getting citizenship from her quote about being on green card for years and then getting citizenship without mentioning marriage.
So no problem about marriage. But what was going on between age 1988 and 2001. How did she get the green card? Was she legally working as an employee of the agencies or as a 1099. How did she file taxes?
