http://www.esquire.com/news-politics/politics/news/a42416/how-to-stop-trump/There does not appear to be any way to stop him now. Unless something completely untoward happens, He, Trump will be the Republican nominee for president. At the moment, Ted Cruz can't catch him because no human being on earth likes Ted Cruz except his mother, and she could be jiving, too. Young Marco Rubio can't catch him because Young Marco Rubio is a big bag of feathers. Neither one of them is willing to step aside for the other. And John Kasich, quite frankly, is drawing to a low inside straight. In the Republican party in the year of our Lord 2016, He, Trump is simply the man of the historical moment.
And why shouldn't he be? For the past 30 years, the country has been told that its government is a strange, alien beast with little or no connection to the lives of the people of the country. At the same time, a series of political developmentsmost notably, a couple of dreadful Supreme Court decisionshas validated that argument by blocking the basic avenues of self-government with great barricades of unaccountable cash. At the same time, the country was encouraged by politicians of both parties to look at the political process as a television show. And now we're surprised that a guy who made his living at the latter has become successful at promoting the former?
This is the essence of what he's about. He, Trump will tame the beast of government. He, Trump personally will bring back jobs. He, Trump personally will solve the immigration problem by building a wall and making other people pay for it. He, Trump personally will intimidate China and outmaneuver Russia into accepting American leadership in the world. And all we have to do to gain these little bits of paradise is to bestir our stumps in November, vote for He, Trump, and then sit back and watch the show. Jesus H. Christ on a white grand piano, and people say Bernie Sanders is offering "free stuff."

We are in a battle with the forces fighting to impose the most extreme characteristics of economic conservatism on America. If the candidate they send against us is Donald Trump, we'll have caught a very good break and the GOP's downward spiral will speed up.

(3,977 posts)In the Primaries - Trumps base ( the disgruntled asshole class) , stays around 35%. Kasich and Carson eventually fold ( but doesnt really matter , Carson folks go to Cruz , Kasich folks go to Rubio).
Brokered Republican Convention in July ( Cleveland)
GOP install their choice - Rubio at that point

(54,014 posts)That will only come after he does whatever he's gotta do to unify the party behind him in June. Which he'll do.
Then, between slandering Clinton as a liar and truthtelling on her as beholden to Wall Street, he'll turn off enough voters to give himself a majority. I gotta say, he's a brilliant manipulator. His path to the White House is pretty damned clear.
Am I the only one who sees this?

(89 posts)I think Trump will ultimately be a lot like Ross Perot ideology wise. He was a member of Perot's reform party afterall.

(33,688 posts)It is the absolute truth.
He could pull it off, but I think Bernie would beat him and fairly handily. HRH, no.
Love me some Bernie, but I'm afraid he's about to come up short in March. I hope I'm wrong. I'm certain he'd do better against Trump than Clinton. But that said, if she gets nominated, I'm hoping you and your friends invest in some clothes pins so you can save this country.

(12,448 posts)Whether or not Trump is the Repub nominee (and I think he will be). Hillary is the only one who can beat him. Some Republicans are freeking out at the possibility of a Trump nomination, but believe me, they'll rally behind him, especially if Sanders gets the nomination (although that's unlikely to happen). It's untrue that the Repub establishment won't get behind Trump. Witness Reince " 'We're going to embrace whoever the nominee is" Priebus himself. And they'd tear Sanders to shreds.
So, bring on Trump! Hillary will swat him away like a fruitfly.
