Free Leonard Peltier! (President Obama pardon)

The time is NOW for Leonard.

"I am writing to urge you to free Leonard Peltier from prison.

I acknowledge that Leonard Peltier was convicted of a serious crime. I have tremendous sympathy for the relatives of Ronald Williams and Jack Coler. They have the right to justice.
I also share Amnesty International’s serious concerns about the fairness of the proceedings leading to Leonard Peltier’s trial and the evidence on which his conviction was based. Parole examiners have thus far failed to take account of the mitigating factors in the case.

Amnesty is concerned about coercion of an alleged eye-witness who said she had seen Leonard Peltier shoot the agents, but who later retracted her testimony, and who was not allowed to be called as a defense witness at his trial. Amnesty has further concerns about the evidence linking Leonard Peltier to the shootings as well as the prosecution’s withholding of evidence that might have assisted Leonard Peltier’s defense, including potentially key ballistics evidence.

Given that all available remedies have been exhausted; that Leonard Peltier’s next parole hearing is scheduled for 2024; and that Leonard Peltier has spent over 36 years in prison, the interests of justice would best be served by releasing Leonard Peltier from prison.
I am also very concerned by reports of Leonard Peltier’s poor health, and urge that he is given access to appropriate medical treatment."

…Much of the government’s behavior at the Pine Ridge Reservation and its prosecution of Mr. Peltier is to be condemned. The government withheld evidence. It intimidated witnesses. These facts are not disputed."

The courts claim they lack the power to right this wrong. But the President can. Please sign my petition, call the White House comment line and tell President Obama to grant clemency to Leonard Peltier at 202-456-1111 or 202-456-1112, go to www.whitehouse.gov/contact, email the president at: president@whitehouse.gov contact the White House via facebook at: https://www.facebook.com/WhiteHouse

since the movement started.

Here's one on Kamook Ecoffey, from DU member Hannah Bell, in 2010:

"1. or maybe she was killed because she was going to challenge the testimony of the real government spy.
the "other witness" Darlene “Kamook” Ecoffey, the one married to a US Marshall.

Kamook admitted under cross examination that she had been paid $42,000 by the FBI, for "moving expenses".

The other big surprise came when Darlene Nichols “Kamook” Banks and Robert “Bob” Ecoffey, the U.S. marshal who recruited Kamook for the FBI, married a few months after the Looking Cloud trial, in Rapid City, South Dakota, in September 2004.

(SEE Kamook’s testimony: http://www.jfamr.org/doc/kmtest1.html ) "

"In 2004, 2008 and 2010 it was proven through 4 trials and the testimony of 23 witnesses (Mostly AIM members themselves) that Annie Mae Pictou Aquash was not murdered by the FBI as AIM Inc. had falsely claimed for over two decades but by her very own AIM comrades. People she trusted and called family. Upon confirming what our family had suspected for decades we took ownership of my mother’s affairs and made a public statement that the appropriation of our mother, by AIM members which also included Leonard Peltier and their supporters, would no longer be tolerated and if necessary legal action would be sought."

I believe the FBI infiltrated the movement and turned the members against each other and then stood back and let the inevitable happen.

Where I partially disagree with you is that you think the infiltrators just turned members against each other, instead of actually doing the dirty work of murder, themselves. And the idea that Peltier killed Anna Mae is a very late (by decades) arrival on the scene, in terms of discussing AIM, Pine Ridge murders, and FBI cointelpro ops. Which is why I pointed out the involvement of Nichols-Banks-Ecoffey in falsely fingering Peltier. Dennis was a swinish infiltrator from the start, and she was suspicious even before she took money from the Feds and openly married one, openly laughing in all the faces of people who she had been intimately involved 'in the struggle' with.

I saw the statement by Selo Black Crow in Matthiessen's '83 book, that 'two indians killed Anna Mae, but a white man set them on to it'. And understood that he was saying the natives knew that natives killed her. She was a very good woman and strongly effective activist who was murdered. The gov is trying very late in the game to pin it on Peltier, when infiltrators like Durham and Nichols-Banks-Ecoffey had been operating within AIMs ranks with impunity, when the murder occurred.

Ms. Aquash Pictou and her family deserve justice. But her family isn't necessarily able to see through the fog of a thousand government lies being spun about the case, and there is zero credible evidence available to justify the government trying to pin the murder of one great AIM activist on another one.

Here's a Counterpunch article on Anna Mae, I read your facebook link:
