overplay their hand. They can't help it. It's what they do. It's in their DNA.
Americans blamed them for the government shut down, and they are going to pay an even bigger price for their unprecedented refusal to even consider an action mandated by the Constitution, simply because it will be put forth by a Democratic President. I believe they are going to piss way the Senate, and narrow the margin in the House.
(But their actions have nothing to do with the fact that Barack Obama is also the first African-American President in US history, SO STOP SAYING THAT!)

1. +1. I've come to belief that STRONG conservatives

are fundamentally incompetent in some very important ways. One is that they lack ability to understand how other people might think and frequently get outplayed in government strategy as a result. It's their strong suit, passionate commitment to whatever their goals, that keeps them fighting, fighting, fighting.

And here a shout-out for moderate conservatives: I may disagree with them on a lot, and do, but, just for instance, FDR built the New Deal with them. It wasn't his accomplishment, it was the accomplishment of many, including many progressive conservatives. We really, really need to work with them again. IF we want to prevail again.
