David Duke Says Voting Against Donald Trump Is ‘Treason to Your Heritage’

Speaking on Wednesday’s “David Duke Radio Program,” the ex-KKK grand wizard and Louisiana lawmaker urged listeners to support Donald Trump. He discouraged voting for other campaigns.

David Duke, a white nationalist and former Klu Klux Klan grand wizard, told his audience Wednesday that voting for anyone besides Donald Trump “is really treason to your heritage.”

“Voting for these people, voting against Donald Trump at this point, is really treason to your heritage,” Duke said on the David Duke Radio Program. BuzzFeed News first reported the comments.

“I’m not saying I endorse everything about Trump. In fact, I haven’t formally endorsed him. But I do support his candidacy, and I support voting for him as a strategic action. I hope he does everything we hope he will do.”

I am extremely white; my ancestry is all Northern European, so far as I'm aware, and most of my ancestors arrived in America before the Revolution. But even so? An awful lot of them...English Catholics, French Huguenots, Scottish Jacobites... were fleeing religious persecution and political persecution (and my post-Revolution immigrant ancestors? Irish fleeing the famine). So you know, it seems to me that denying people fleeing famine in Africa or drug wars and violence and poverty in Mexico or the horrendous brutality of ISIS in Syria the chance my ancestors had is a greater treason to my heritage. But, that's just me. Apparently David Duke and I have very different ideas about what America is supposed to be.
