trump released an attack ad on mittens, attacking his conservative creditials.
When has a presidential front runner made and released attack ads on a person from their party who is not running for he nomination?
Is mitt stepping in for the floor fight? What the fuck is going on on their side?

(14,255 posts)like Romney or Jeb! run.
I still think that both Bernie's campaign and Trump's campaign were not supposed to get this far or be this successful or shine such a spotlight on divisions within the parties. Supposed to bring in fresh blood, and then dutifully hand those newly engaged voters to the declared favorites of the parties. Not going to happen.
Methinks there will be lots of unintended consequences, no matter how deceitfully Rovian campaign tactics become, from some candidates.
PoliticAverse
(26,366 posts)it is unlikely. On the other hand, Romney is apparently "rested and ready".

(142 posts)and rMoney has 15 fewer states to work with. Him, or anyone else who'd jump in at this late date, for that matter.
Not impossible, but he'd have to slaughter Trump in every major state between now and June.
Anything short of that is merely aiming for a brokered convention, which virtually guarantees a party split and disaster in November.
PoliticAverse
(26,366 posts)since, as you point out, it would likely severely reduce chances of a Republican being elected President.

(48 posts)If Trump is blocked, he'll (rightfully) take it as a personal insult. And he's liable to run independent, just to be in their face about it. He'll take his 25% with him when he stomps out. Yeah, he promised not to do that, but that was yesterday and the offer no longer stands. Or if it's too late to file, just run ads trashing the Repub nominee. He has a very large ego and a very thin skin.
While I'd rather see him as the nominee, because that would certainly depress the Repub turnout, running as a 3rd contender would guarantee presidential defeat.

Then we have the old gray suits at GOP whos thinking is in the dark ages. Trump is dragging them into the 21st century some will not survive and this healing is a joy to watch.

The Koch brothers today announced they won't be giving any money to this so-called anti-Trump coalition.
