Apologies to fellow DUer Malaise for the duplicate thread (http://www.democraticunderground.com/10027670316) but this headline is better.

Jamie Gilt: Gun rights activist shot by 4-year-old son after claiming he was 'jacked up' to fire weapons
Police said they had not yet determined whether the victim of the incident was to face charges
An outspoken gun rights activist has been shot and wounded by her four-year-son - hours after she posted a message on social media saying how jacked up he was to shoot a weapon.
Police in Florida said Jamie Gilt was in a stable condition in hospital after being shot in the abdomen while driving. Police said it appeared her son, sitting in the back seat, had somehow managed to get his hands on a .45 calibre handgun and shoot her, the bullet passing through her body.
(snip)
Ms Gilt, from Jacksonville, frequently posts on social media about her love of guns and her views on Second Amendment rights, as well as her support for Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz. Her Facebook page also contains material many would consider racist.
The night before Tuesday's incident she wrote that her 4-year-old gets jacked up to target shoot the .22. She has also posted a number of comments about how it is better to confront a burglar with a gun than to call the police.
There is more at the link explaining how she is confident her family would kill intruders and they are waiting to see if she is going to be charged with a misdemeanor.
Shouldn't child protective services doesn't make sure she loses all of her guns due to her "failure to protect" issues?
I should probably feel bad for her, but stupidity at that level being painful - I am just glad the little one is okay!

(209 posts)What the lousy libs fail to realize is that if she was packing another gun, maybe strapped to her back, it could have deflected that bullet. Or she could have shot her attacker first. I think the NRA says the only way to stop a bad toddler with a gun is .....

Welcome to DU!
Oh, and if your device doesn't show the "smilies", you can make the "sarcasm" thing by typing : sarcasm : (with no spaces) and it ends up looking like this:

(4,762 posts)on guns should both lose the kid, and their gun rights. Jail should be on the table.
These halfwit ammosexuals. How does a 4 year old "accidentally" get his mother's gun? That woman is an unfit parent. The fault is fully hers. Fully. She endangered him and many others (especially if this happened while driving). It's certainly no better than drunk driving and that gets you in big trouble.
Everyone needs to keep reminding your idiot gun nutter acquaintances: if you keep a gun in your home, any gun for any reason, the statistically most likely person to get shot is someone living in your home. The actual use of a gun for effective self-protection by non-LEOs is rare and very often leads to unintended deaths and injuries. But accidental shootings, suicides, and domestic violence are how most how guns ever get used in Armerica (sic). Most handguns are never used for sport purposes despite blah blah from nutters about hunting and target shooting. They're used for killing and injuring people you love.
Owning a gun puts your family and community in danger, statistically by the numbers, much more than it protects you. Not fully controlling the guns you own should be a crime.
Nutters will go on and on about saving lives and protecting their families. But remember that the odds of that happening vs. something like this story are tiny. Stories like this happen every single day, all over America.
So fine keep your stupid gun if it makes you feel manly or tough. But when your kid gets his hands on it or your spouse shoots you with it or you blow off your foot cleaning it or grandad commits suicide with it, that shit is on you. Jail time, loss of firearm rights, and loss of kids should all be on the table. They make safes, trigger locks, and boxes where you can keep your bullets separate from your dick extender.

(9,951 posts)at least this time you didn't advocate for firearm owning DU'er's to shoot themselves, I guess that little time out over the weekend taught you a lesson.
Now, on to your post.
There are literally hundreds of stories and videos on youtube of civilians successfully defending themselves with firearms against those that would harm them, that's fact, not like your fiction.
Owning a car will make it more likely that you'll be involved in an accident, having alcohol in the house will make it more likely that you'll get drunk, having a knife in the home will make it more likely that you'll cut yourself.
See, I can do it also.

(63,219 posts)We used sippy cups for our two kids for years and never once saw mold like that.
Of course, we disassembled and washed the cups at least several times daily, so maybe that was a factor.

(10,559 posts)We never saw anything like it either. (Did I brag yet about how the twins are nine now? And still the most wonderful amazing kids on the planet!)

(63,219 posts)We did ours one at a time and still can't believe we made it through. I can't imagine a double-scoop of children from the get-go.
