Republicans will vote on Garland in lame-duck session if Hillary wins

http://www.rawstory.com/2016/03/key-republicans-admit-theyll-hold-up-garlands-nomination-unless-hillary-wins/

Republicans will stall Garland's nomination until the election is over.

If Trump wins, they will dunk him, in hopes of getting a more conservative nominee.

If Hillary (or Bernie) wins, they will put him on the Supreme Court faster than you can say: "Didn't you guys attack, smear and badmouth Garland for the last 7 months?"

They will do so because they know that Garland is the best deal they can expect if the Democrats win this election.

-------------

What if Obama retracts Garland's nomination the day after the Democrats have won the election?
He has nothing to lose:

- What are the Republicans gonna do? Try to sabotage his government?

- Hillary/Bernie is free to nominate whomever they want. And it will be fun to watch the Republicans demand that Hillary/Bernie re-nominate Garland AFTER smearing him for 7 months and AFTER insisting for 7 months that the next President should pick the nominee.

Garland's nomination will be withdrawn if Hillary wins, assuming his nomination is still up. LonePirate Mar 2016 #1

Wouldn't he want him confirmed anyway?

of the Senate.

I'm hoping for a massive turnover in Congress.

I agree Garland will probably be withdrawn before a lame duck confirmation can happen. Instead, Obama will present his real choice to the new Senate on January 3. That nominee will be confirmed prior to January 20, and not a single Democrat will complain because the filibuster rule will be dead for SCOTUS confirmations, opening up Ginsburg and Breyer to retirement in the first two years of the new administration.

Then there will come the Kennedy Health Watch for the rest of the administration.

To get the most Centrist pick they could hope for.

Garland seems like a great guy, but at 63, he's not the ideal age for a pick. Srinivasan is 47.

Clarence "Seat-Warmer" Thomas was 40-fucking-2 when he was nominated. He's been taking up space on the court for a quarter century. So far. I'd bet his term will be 35-40 years by the time he gives up or dies from boredom.

Garland would be unlikely to match that tenure.
