Bill Clinton acknowledged Tuesday that Republican Gov. Scott Walker has an advantage over Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett in todays historic recall election in Wisconsin.
The advantage probably goes to Walker because hes got so much money, Clinton said in an interview with CNBC that aired just hours before polls closed in the Badger State. A lot of moneys coming from out of state, including some from the unions to support Barrett, but not nearly as much as Walker has received. Its going to be a close and interesting race.

The former president, who appeared at a rally in support of Barrett earlier this week, pushed back on the suggestion that a Walker victory would be a harbinger of the presidential election this fall.
I dont think so. President Obamas got a pretty good lead in the polls in Wisconsin, Clinton said. I think if (Walker) wins, it will mean, number one, he had a lot more money.

It's "raising the bar"...just like how before a debate candidates like to say how good a debater their opponent is and that they'll be really tough.

(10,960 posts)What is he supposed to say? Of course the fact that Walker has 7-10 times more money is an advantage.
Is he supposed to say it's a handicap?
Are you so eager to trash Bubba that you have to rely on how POLITICO frames the quote for you?
They could have just as easily headed the piece, "Clinton sees Wisconsin Recall Race as Close."
As Clinton says, in the article, "Its going to be a close and interesting race."

(29,676 posts)Walker does have more money-lots more. If anything, it could be a way to make the voters think about why Walker needs so much money to retain a job that pays so little (compared to the private sector work that'll be available for him via the GOP later).
Clinton said that the top reason for a Walker win is more money, not because he does a good job.

(21,925 posts)because they think Walker is a shoe-in then it's not a good thing. Clinton is not supposed to be a wisened objective pundit. Since he's taken it upon himself to get involved in Wisconsin, he's supposed to be a party leader in the huddle, giving his team a pep talk, hope, and encouragement. If he merely wants to show us his considerable political expertise then he should do it after the polls close because his opinion carries an impact.
