We must take these dangerous people seriously. It does not matter what SCOTUS says or does. They are determined and will never give up and will never stop trying ro get rid of these Americans.
And we cannot let them hide behind their religion as a defense for their evil intentions. They too are fair game.

(8,830 posts)My son, who identifies as transgender, is very specific about the usage. Easier, he says, to use transgender as it is the accepted umbrella term.

(99,710 posts)Transexual is a porn term. Being transgender is about the gender the person identifies with and is about so much more than genitalia.

(8,830 posts)I tend to go with the experts opinion on it - there is a useful glossary, here:

**my son is a trans* activist and does a lot of training, teaching, and outreach. I've learned a lot from him.

(6,017 posts)People who watch a lot of porn and don't read much science assume it's a porn term. Actually, it's just an older term - it was used for decades in pseudo-medical fields (ie pure conjecture as far as cause goes) like psychology. Going back to at least the 1950's it was used in the 'scientific' literature and the like until the 1990's. It's interesting that the term favored by those disciplines began to be dropped in general usage at the same time that the really solid evidence of biological underpinnings began to be sorted out starting in 1994 in harder science fields such as neurology, endocrinology, genetics and developmental biology.

(6,017 posts)Given that a belief - even a sincerely held one - is merely an opinion,
Why should some people's irrational (ie unprovable) personal opinions be deemed legally above those of everyone else?
Why are some people exempt from laws just because they hold a certain opinion?
Why is the Liberty of some deemed more important than the Liberty of others based on their opinion of some topic?
Why, for the last few decades have we granted people with opinions of cosmology the same protections as for innate characteristics such as race, sex, color & national origin?
Finally, doesn't granting them special dispensation under the laws of our nation that everyone else must follow make us a bit of a de facto Theocracy?
