Oh My Gosh! Obama Largest Recpient of Big Oil Industry Campaign Donations in 2008

the naïveté of some on this board is approaching monumental heights. Every time I hear a poster use the term "corporatist" I giggle. Please give it a break-you sound ridiculous to any intelligent person. I'm convinced some of you simply don't understand how the United States capitalist economy works which makes sense based on criticism from a candidate who is a Democratic Socialist.

As long as we have to live with the current campaign finance laws, there is no way in hell I'd turn down a donation from any American wanting to donate to her campaign.

The vilification of any American just because he might work for a corporation-even a big corporation in an industry you might not like is a losing proposition. The reason the Democratic Party has won ANY Presidential election in the last Century likely resulted from the hope that such Democratic President had a better plan to get the economy moving (its the economy STUPID) and that includes businesses predominately conducted through corporations. Hell most of you work for corporations.

How many elections have Socialists won? How many elections has any candidate who used the word "corporatist" won in the history of the United States? Since when has the Democratic Party become the anti-business Party? If it does become the anti-business Party then it won't win any Presidential elections in the future. I'm hoping most of these complaint aren't coming from actual Democrats or we can kiss the future of the Party away.

Some of us didn't fall for the 'Hope & Change' Madison Avenue ad campaign.

Some of us saw Obama for the corporate friendly New Dem that he has always been.

Funny though that Sanders is running a campaign quite easily without all of this Big Industry money. Check out the amounts for March.

3. So You Want the Democratic Party To Become the Anti-Business Party

has there ever been a Democratic President who EVER met your ridiculous standards? I'm sure with those standards you have voted for a long list of losing Presidential candidates. No thanks! I like a Democrat in the White House. Perhaps you ought to start the Anti-Business Party

Maybe it's time we embrace citizens united.

Everyone does it so let's go along to get along.

Accept that your corporate overlords have your best interests in mind.

The Democratic Party would be history without corporate cash.

Corporations are just people! And when THEY put politicians in their pockets it's only for your own good you ingrates!

Fascism isn't really a "thing". Corporations NEVER collude with government against the people's interests. Corporations are benevolent!

5. No Democrat Had Anything to Do With Citizen United-Hell I Don't Know One that Supports It

or doesn't want it overturned.

Can you name a single Democrat that favors Citizen United and its progeny. Hell have you ever read the case. Citizens United was a 5-4 decision with all 4 Democratic nominated justices in dissent and all 5 Republican nominated justices in the majority

That's the point. People don't want to continue living with the current campaign finance laws. They drown the voices of the people in favor of the wealthy. But thanks for letting us know you're OK with selling out.

and you want to tie the hands of the Democratic nominee behind her back. I want to win in 2016 so a Democratic President will be able to nominate the 5th SCOTUS justice who will overturn Citizens United and its progeny. I don't want to tie the hands of hundreds of Democratic candidates especially Senators who will be necessary to confirm that 5th SCOTUS justice

It's evident from their fierce unrelenting attempts to counter Citizens United since its inception. And so many are campaigning with the promise of overturning Citizens United, right? Its odd, I can't recall who is running with that goal.

The only realistic way to overturn Citizens United is through the SCOTUS and the only way that can happen is with a 5th Democratic nominated Justice. Otherwise, you would have to have a Constitutional Amendment which would require a 2/3rd majority and passage of such an Amendment in the states. Not going to happen.

That you said would never pass anyway. While I do appreciate the gesture it's difficult to trust democrats to overturn Citizens United while simultaneously using it to their advantage. But I'd love to see a democratic majority in both the house and senate. If democrats are serious about winning they need to make a bigger issue of stating they promise to overturn Citizens United. It would attract Sanders supporters.
