(8,968 posts)The first two Merle Haggard songs I heard were performed by Gram Parsons onstage in L.A. while he was with the Byrds back in '68. The audience response was lukewarm as I recall, and Parsons gave the audience a brief instructive lecture on why folks should be more appreciative of his music. Eventually people caught on. R.I.P.

(15,064 posts)Hes not a politician. I dont think he understands the way things work in Washington, thats what worries me about him, Haggard tells Rolling Stone Country. I dont think he realizes he cant just tell somebody to do something and have it done, you know. I think hes dealing from a strange deck.
