(5,792 posts)Voter ID laws has nothing to do with this. This is the Dem party's way of keeping control to a few royals within the party to be the leaders. No grassroots so the supers...exist per DWS!

(13,431 posts)The majority winner of pledged delegates will win the nomination. The supers are not and will not change the will of the voters.
Yes, the supers need to be removed entirely from the process; but they are not disenfranchising anyone.

(61,697 posts)I don't like hearing that crap, even if the delegate system is rigged. Democrats need to get out and vote, all the way down-ticket and in off-year elections, too. Joe was just trying to convince Dems to suppress their own votes.

(58,785 posts)out some perverse notion of moral superiority is something that really needs to remain their own problem.
On similarities between far left and far right: First, they share the same high degree of moral outrage and anger. This strong moral outrage makes them into absolutists. They become True Believers in their cause, with no doubts whatsoever. They see everyone else as sell-outs and trimmers. This includes many people who share their sympathies, but not their fanaticism.

(58,785 posts)(And striking photographs.) I saw, I believe, Bravenak's post on the grim history of black pragmatism. I've also read poignant posts mentioning feeling depressed that Obama's presidency is coming to an end. Rev up the engine on that old pragmatism.
This division between purist and pragmatist goes way beyond, or perhaps before, political points of view and interest groups. The moment I learned that political orientations have been proven to be genetically linked (and only then environmentally acted upon), so much fell into place. Epiphany.
And it clarified the great ignorance and confusion "out there" among so-called experts who, for instance, so typically include under the blanket term "liberal" groups of people on the left who are actually so different that their thoughts are usually on nonintersecting lines. Ah, they don't know what they are talking about!
But before then I was always pragmatist. People who don't agree with me aren't going away, and I don't and never will get all that I want. And sure as heck other "minorities" aren't. This article is rather sad, but written another way it could be a proud expression of maturity of understanding and wisdom. Harder earned by some than others, of course.

(1,779 posts)Joe's very, very, very loud obnoxious rant was very grating.
However, he did make a point about how the super-delegates are giving the nod to Hillary from the states the Bernie won on the ground and called this unfair. I think in that accusation, I agree with him.
He also (ridiculously) said that if we Dems run our party this way, we shouldn't be concerned about voter suppression.
But I wonder how much of a suppressing effect the role of super-delegates will have on the general election. If Hillary or Bernie win the individual states but lose the pledged- and super-delegates, will that dishearten voters for the general election (e.g., my vote doesn't count)?
We are still early in this whole process, though. But it's past time to abandon any arrogance we may have.
Go Bernie!

(284 posts)with the delegate game. It completely caught the Republican establishment off guard. The GOP did all kinds of shady stuff including last minute rules changes to guarantee the illusion of a united party under Romney. Now the irony is that Cruz is doing the exact same thing as the RP people and the establishment is perfectly okay with it.
How many wheels does this Republican wagon have ? They keep losing wheels and I keep laughing.
