Powerful earthquake hits southern Japan

THE ASAHI SHIMBUN AND WIRE REPORTS
April 14, 2016 at 22:00 JST

A powerful earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.4 has struck southern Japan.

Japan's Meteorological Agency said the quake hit at 9:26 p.m. and was centered in Kumamoto Prefecture on Kyushu, Japan's southern main island.

An intensity of seven on the Japanese scale of 7 was recorded in the town of Mashiki, Kumamoto Prefecture.

The agency says there's no danger of a tsunami.

The extent of the damage is not immediately known.

Not a major wall, I think, but this was a big earthquake.

Damn - and now the aftershocks.

I had no idea it was this bad. There was a much stronger one yesterday in Myanmar I never thought this one would bring so much destruction.

I noticed something looking at the map of Japan... there are two cities named Sendai, one near Daichi and another not far from the epicenter(s) of these quakes in the far south of the main island.
